First in an historical romance series that include 'Jade and 'Velvet'. This is a story with a cast of splendid characters who capture the reader's heart from the start. A delightful read.

Someone wants Lady Amber Sinclair dead. Although she survives the crash of her sabotaged carriage, her beloved father does not. And with his dying breath, William sinclair entrusts Amber's care to a dear friend. Grief stricken and frightened, the usually self willed young woman allows herself to be spirited away to safety by a man she loved as a child, but has despised for years. The grandson of a duke and son of a priate, Clayton Cordell yearns to leave both London society and the open sea behind for the raw pure land of the colonies. A man of his word, he vows to protect Amber, who has blossomed from the innocent girl he once knew into a beautiful sensuous woman. Yet even after fleeing together, they cannot escape danger, posed by both unknown assessins and by the precarious longings of their hearts.
