Great historical novel. Iloved it. A smooth blending of past and present works like a pendulum, swinging back to the Pilgrams and forward to their descendants. Martin is a great story teller.

If family sagas are your thing this is the book for you. The Bigelows and the Hilyard clans come to the cape in the early history of America. This book follows the families as their families intertwine until the present day.

Again, as in all of Martin's books I was overwhelmingly pleased. I have read all of his books at this point. They are thoroughly researched and set out in a "Michener" type of scope. He gives a great lay of the land, spirit of the people and feel for the times. With this Cape Cod book the Indians are a main part of the plot and they were in real history. The exception is this time they are portrayed a lot more fairly. The maps on the inside of front and back covers are extremely helpful, since the names and coast line have changed since that time.

This is the saga of the Bigelow and Hilyard clans form the time they reached America's shores to the present.
All William Martin's books are exceptional. I enjoyed reading the history of CAPE COD from it's earliest to the present. Mr Martin always throws in a mystery that makes the reading of historical fiction so enjoyable.
learned some history regarding cape cod. Interesting
Cape Cod is a great book for history buffs. It gives you a a mental picture of what our four fathers went through plus a great story to go with it. It is especially thrilling if you have been to the Cape and know the places they talk about in the story.
I read this book when it was newly published in the 1990's and remember enjoying it very much. I've always loved the Cape and my many memories of visits there. This is an enjoyable read for all who like a little American history thrown in to their novels.
I don't know why, but I just couldn't get into this book. Tried 2 or 3 times, telling myself it should be good, but no dice...
