This book is very interesting if you are interested in this part of history as it is a very different Holocaust story. The internment camps that the Italians kept for the Jews not only embodied their life but protected their life. The Italians defied Hitler's plan of extermination of the Jewish race by hiding, protecting, and welcoming the Jewish people into their country without a visa. Those that went to Italy survived and their stories were finally revealed through Elizabeth Bettina's research, curiousity, and determination. A very interesting read for another view of the Holocaust history.

What an amazing book. It tells the story of how 80% of Italy's Jews, even immigrants who excaped Germany, were protected by the Italians. It is very current and some of the survivors who tell their story are still alive. A great testimony to the Italian people!
