Much of this has already been debunked in other books. In fact, Gary Krupp ( a Jew) was so angry about this misinformation that he wrote a book proving it wrong.
Pope Pius XII and World War II- The Documented Truth
Mr. Krupp has a website devoted to improving relations between faiths through removing non-theological obstacles. http://www.ptwf.org/default.aspx
John Cornwell has a very strong anti-Catholic agenda going on that doesn't want anything to do with truth and is hell-bent on destroying people. Don't waste your time on this book.

I seriously suggest looking up on Wikopedia "Hitler's Pope" and also "the myth of Hitler's pope" before you read this. The author has retracted many things in this book afterwards and seems to have a personal vendetta against the Catholic Church as he is a liberal and wants major change - but he didn't get what he wanted when he was a seminarian. Don't believe everything you read people. Just because it was published doesn't mean it is true. Do your homework on this one.
Hitler is waging war in Germany and in Europe and the future Pope Pius XII is making treaties with Hitler in which he allows Hitler to kill the Jews because Pope Pius XII also hated the Jews. This Pope's agreements with Hitler also allowed Hitler to kill many Catholics also. This is a recent book by the Roman Catholic Scholar John Cornwall. The author was permitted special permission from the Vatican to research this book. This book follows Pope Pius' path all over the globe. This was a very interesting book and I highly recommend it.

Cover picture was taken in 1927, so don't assume too much from the "Nazi" helmet, it obviously pre-dates the Nazis coming to power. He doesn't have to much good to day about Pacelli, he sounds like Pacelli was a classic case of a man who outlived his time. Pacelli's life work revolved around renegotiating the logical result of the infallablilty doctrine after 1870 and the appointment of bishops in the post-monarchical world, both which tended to centralize authority with the pope.
