This book is hysterical. The worst part about it is the same as any other Choose Your Own Adventure book -- trying to find all of the pages to make sure you get to read all of them. NPH has had an amazing life, and this book is definitely worth the read.

Hard to read as you know part of the book is "ha ha" fake and the other parts are real. Plus trying to actually follow his life correctly is hard to do (and make sure you've read all the pages). A bit disappointed by that as I figured they'd try to make it easier to do instead of literally going all over the place and having multiple endings etc.

Choose Your Own Autobiography is one of the most creative autobiographies I have ever read or even heard of. We are welcomed into the life of actor Neil Patrick Harris best known for his acting roles as a young doctor named Doogie Howser M.D. or the womanizing Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. Like the Choose Your Own Adventure books from the 1980's we get to decide how the stories (or in this case NPH's life) unfold.
First off, I am a big fan of Neil Patrick Harris. There is something about him that makes it hard to not like him. This memoir really showcases his sense of humor not just because you get to choose what happens. As I continued to read I felt more and more like I was listening to an old friend chat about his life. Which so far has been pretty awesome.
While the Choose Your Own theme was an awesome idea. I had a hard time going back to past pages after meeting an early end. It just became tedious reading what I had already read.
Here's to hoping that Neil Patrick Harris still has a long career in entertainment because I would like to see another book from him.

This was a fun book to read! It does a great job at being a choose your own adventure book, just like I remember from a child.

While quite a lot of the book is the Bigger NPH that we all see publicly, there is quite a lot of the softer, more personal Neil that we don't get to see as often. There's notes from his friends, the story of how he met David and their family came to be. He talks about his parents and the long discovery of his sexuality. I wouldn't say it's a tell allâbut it's a very, um, interesting book detailing the life of one of the most lovable faces in celebrity today.

As a child of the 80s, I was aware of Doogie Howser. It wasn't a show my parents watched, but I would catch an occasional rerun or the end of an episode. I knew who Neil Patrick Harris was, but he wasn't really on my radar. Then I was watching a celebrity texas hold-em show on Bravo (remember that one - I think Kevin Pollack hosted for awhile), and NPH was one of the players (sadly, this game is not mentioned in the book). I remember thinking he was really funny.
Flash forward to the writer's strike and a little thing called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (this happily, is mentioned in the book). I was hooked. I bought it on multiple platforms after watching it for free (download, DVD, and soundtrack!).
After that, I have watched with interest many of NPH's endeavors (except for The Smurfs. I just can't). So when this book came out, with the choose your own adventure hook, I knew I had to read it.
And I adored it. Honest, insightful, and funny enough to make me laugh out loud. I now wait to see what he's going to do next - oh, right, he's playing freakin' Count Olaf in the new Lemony Snicket series. Sign me up.
