This novel reminded me of a serious drama wrapped in with a romantic comedy and action film all in one, but not always working well with each other. I think that often it was entirely too lofty for itself and that about 50 pages of nonsense could have been taken out and the book would have been an easier read.
The characters and story though made it worth pushing through when pushing was needed. The characters were well rounded and Justin and Cuddy were people you'd want to know. Even the minor characters were mighty interesting. If you feel that you have the time to sometimes muddle through the extensive writing in this novel I would recommend it to you.

I loved this book, in fact, I loved all three books in this series (to date). I'm hoping that there will be more books written in the series because I really learned to care about the characters and want to know what happens next!

I read the loftiness as ironic and enjoyed the pace, language and humor so synchronized with the nature of the Piedmont.
Not his best, but decent.

Just finished reading this book, and what a fun read it was. The language is beautiful, the book intelligently written. Good old southern mystery with class, humor and dignity. It'll take a long time to forget the wonderful charcter studies, or the great one liners between Cuddy and Savile. Can't wait for the sequel.
