Scholastic Reading Level 6 "Their path to the state finals started with the six grade championship. Mrs. Olinski had expected victory, for her team was quick and informed and worked together perfectly. No one had expected them to trounce the other two sixth grades, but they did. Their victory was so profound that the sixth-grade mathe teacher, Mrs. Sharkey, confined to the musci teacher, Ms. Masolino, that for the first time in history of Epiphany Middle School there was a chance - just a possibility, mind you - that a sixth grade team might beat the seventh grade. Author is a Newberry Award Winner.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a Fantasy story, but it wasn't. It was a very good story, though. I like how each section is told by a different character but they each build on the others. I think Nadia's section was my favorite

The View from Saturday by Konigsburg is about a teacher and four children who find their places in the difficult time of sixth grade. I honestly was pleased with this book, but it is by no means one of my favorites. I think my favorite part of this book is how it was written. Konigsburg has a main plot, the sixth grade team involved in a quiz bowl, but trickles off the main plot to add in who the characters are and how they are tied together. The interesting parts are the subplots, not the over plot of the quiz bowl championship.

Each child is tied together in someway. With each break, the reader gets deeper into the families and lives of each character, then see how they are connected to one another (not by choice). After each child's summer journey, they are pulled together by their fourth member for tea. These teas help to bring together their friendship and tighten their bond. The quiz-show is just a way that they are showing their talents out and helping their teacher.

All in all, this is a great book for 4th-7th grade readers. The language is fairly simple and the plot is easy to understand. The author throws in useful information, and even includes the questions and answers to some of the quiz show challenges. Some children might find those very interesting. I know that I learned a thing or two as I was reading. I think I know three times as much about sea turtles than I did when I began this book. It's a cute, sweet read that is short enough to get through in a day or two.

I know that everyone has read "From the Mixed-up Files...", but I haven't. This was my first Konigsburg novel and I enjoyed it.

The characters were quirky and likable, the plot was well-crafted with plenty of unexpected connections and interesting twists. All-in-all, a nice piece of young adult lit.

An unlikely foursome of sixth graders rise to be champions of the Academic Book lead by a returning teacher after a 10 year break due to being paralyzed in an automobile accident.

Humor, magic, grace, acts... a charmingly superb tale.

In this novel, four sixth-grade students form a group they call The Souls. Along with their teacher, Mrs. Olinski, they use their various strengths and passions compete in the Academic Bowl. Its a great book for curious students who might be asking What makes me special? This book is GREAT for working on point-of-view, as its chapters alternate between first-person limited and third-person omniscient. DRA level 44, Guided Reading Level U

Great story! I liked how the charicters were asked questions in the book and they triggered a flashback that the certain charicter told you about! Definantly reccomened it for anyone (like me :) who has had experience on an academic team at any age! 5 out of 5 stars!

this is a very interesting and very well-written book about the world of junior-high academic/scholoar's/brain bowl/competitions. i gave it three stars because the reading level is about that of a junior-high student; quite lower than my current level; but it really is a very well-written book.

"MEET THE SOULS

* NOAH, who quite by accident was the best man at the wedding of Ethan's grandmother and Nadia's grandfather

* NADIA, a hybrid with a halo of red hair, a dog that's a genius, and a fondness for baby turtles

* ETHAN, the silent second son of one of Epiphany's oldest families, who discovers he likes halos

* JULIAN, the strangest person on the school bus, who starts everything the others to a tea party

How did Mrs. Olinski, returning to teaching ten years after being paralyzed in an automobile accident, choose these four to be her sixth-grade Academic Bowl?
And how did this unlikely foursome become an even unlikelier champions, in far more than just the state middle school competition?
THE VIEW FROM SATURDAY is a rich and rewarding journey that answers these questions and raises many more."
