This is the best book I've read this year. I'm not usually a romance reader so I am thrilled that on a whim (after reading a review of this book on goodreads) I decided to buy this book. I had no idea that this book originated as Twilight fan fiction until after I had read it. I never caught that connection while reading the book. The characters seem completely original to me; they are complex, multi-layered characters who grow and change as the book progresses. The book is beautifully written - much more so than I am used to seeing with debut authors.

I loved the literary references in this novel. I loved how Reynard was able to find the most perfect quotes from other works to attribute to people and situations. He is an incredibly gifted author and I look forward to reading anything else he may write.

Possible spoiler below:

There is only one sex scene in this entire book, yet it is one of the most erotic books I have ever read. I found it amazing how the author make seemingly ordinary things seem so sensual: the tasting of a glass of wine, the look of a pair of high heel shoes, the act of feeding someone a slice of cake, the motion of pushing a lock of hair out of someone's eyes. I was overwhelmed with feeling as I read this book. It will be a book that I'll come back to again and again.

This is the worst book I have ever had the displeasure to read. Interesting enough idea for a novel but a failure in the execution. Poor plot, terrible dialogue, dreadful writing. All the characters are flat and one-dimensional and the story lines are completely far-fetched. Don't waste your time.
