Michael Savage has crafted a modern work of art. The plot and characters are so relevant to todays political and social world. It is thrilling, modern and relevant. We could almost call this "faction." The novel is art imitating life. At times as ironic as it may seem I envisioned Savage, well a younger version of as our hero Jack Hatfield. Who likes '85 Glenrothes followed by a couple of Becks. I'd say reading this was like inspecting the parts of fine vintage watch. A Hamilton Gilbert in which Jack had inherited from his father.
Savage has no problems telling who the enemy is. There is no blurred line. Jack is sanity in a world gone awry by political correctness. Of which all of us are so very exhausted of. Oh, and I don't like that Soren very much. The eighty one year old communist billionaire.
Hatfield at times quotes memories from the Old Testament which I found thought provoking. He has memories and lessons remembered from his father and Rabbi friend. Near the end my heart was pounding.
His little dog Eddie is so lovable. I wish there was more of an important role in which the little guy played. I can hardly wait for more adventures from aboard the "Sea Wrighter".

I loved this book and by the end of it I was breathless. It is an amazing true life adventure of survival, perseverance, faith and trust all in the time of war. I couldn't help but think of being lost in a tropical rain-forest in 1944-45 evading capture. I was transported there by the wonderful writing of Heimann.
Judith Heimann does a super job of putting the events and timeline in order as best she could from the interviews, memoirs, and post action recordings from the survivors of those who participated. Also, the book really shows the power of Christianity and how a little of it can go a long way even in the jungles of Borneo.
All I can say is read the book you will be rewarded.

If you are looking for a novel about war that puts you in the trenches then this book is as close to all that. The story covers the 12 day battle of Alemein and is told from the accounts of actual real life characters and some fictional ones as well, of British Commonwealth, German and Italian soldiers, Generals who fought this significant battle of World War 2. Also included in the story is that of an American ambulance crew. It is straight forward and not fancy almost reading as non-fiction. Don't be surprised when you read of the gruesome realities of war. I was looking for something on different level but did come away with documentary style of fiction from reading this. It wasn't spectacular but wasn't bad. 3 Stars.

Brings History to Life!
Wow! What an awesome account of history of the Malta "convoy". At times during the attacks on the convoy I just wished it would stop. I was afraid to go onto the next chapter! Heroism and courage beyond compare told in a unique style. The author, Sam Moses recounts the history through interviews and super research in a documentary style easy to picture in your mind. He really brought an almost forgotten convoy back to life and put you there on the water, through the flames and under attack. I kept asking myself, what would I have done if I were there. This is a must for anyone wanting to learn more about the Malta campaign. Reading this book is like watching a movie!

Desert Fury started a bit slow but by the end I had no idea trying to figure out what the outcome would be. Isolated in North Africa battling against Rommel's Afrika Corps these bunch of raw recruits must find their inner strength fighting the elements and an opposing army. They must also overcome their own differences along with an obsessed commander. These 53 years books can be good to read. If you enjoy reading stories about the desert war then put this book on your TBR list.
