French writes beautifully, much more so than almost any other detective novels I have read. Her plot line is riveting and the characters are three-dimensional, real characters who engage, mystify, and keeping the reader wanting to know more.

"Perry makes the history of ideas as approachable as the history of events. The text shows how political, economic, and cultural aspects of Western Civilization have been shaped by a progression of ideas. A wealth of detailed maps, comparative timelines, chronologies, and chapter summaries all contribut to the effectiveness of Perry."
