Death of a Bacon Heiress is the seventh installment in the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails cozy mystery series. Hayley Powell is the office manager and food column critic for the Island Times newspaper on Mount Desert Island, Maine.
Hayley is the divorced, single mother of Gemma and Dustin and with both kids away at college she is experiencing a bad case of empty nest syndrome. She is pleasantly surprised and overjoyed when she is invited to New York to shoot a cooking segment for the wildly popular daytime show, The Chat. It seems that Rhonda Franklin, the loud and overbearing host of the show is one of Hayley's biggest fans.
Hayley travels to New York with best friends Liddy and Mona, and there meets Olivia Redmond, heiress to Redmond Meats, the largest meat supplier in the country. Olivia's family also happens to have a large estate on Mount Desert Island, and Hayley is both familiar with and intimidated by the imposing woman.
After returning home from her television debut, Hayley drops in on beau Aaron Palmer at his veterinarian practice. Things have been a little tense between Hayley and Aaron lately and she is anxious to catch him up on her life. Leaving the office Hayley bumps into Olivia who is on the island with her gorgeous Argentinian polo playing husband Nacho, and is bringing her pot bellied pig Pork Chop in for his yearly checkup. Olivia invites Hayley to dinner and hires her to write two blogs a week for Redmond Meats.
Several days later Hayley stumbles upon the body of the Bacon Heiress, and sets out to discover who would want to see the woman dead. Plenty of suspects include the jealous vice president of Redmond Meats, Thorsten Brandt who feels he should be running the company, and her estranged son Red and his money hungry girlfriend Peggy.
The main cast of characters in the series returns for this wild romp including Hayley's brother Randy and his hunky husband Sergio, the local police detective. A great edition to the series and one not to be missed by fans of Hayley.
