A brilliant, imaginative retelling of the fairy tale set during Nazi-occupied Poland. I really didn't know whether the two subjects would mix, and I wasn't altogether sure if I could stomach reading about Nazi atrocities, so I was amazed it turned out to be one of my best reads this year. So, even if you have the same reservations, I still urge you to read it; somehow I really don't believe you'll be disappointed. 5 stars.
