This book made me realize just how bad the situation is out there in the media. How controlled by corporate PR and government intervention our supposedly "free" media is. How could this happen in the United States of America?
I highly recommend this book to citizens who want to be better informed.

If you've ever wondered if the media is giving you the whole story, stop wondering. Each year, Project Censored publishes a list of the most underreported stories, and this book is a collection that covers 1976 to 1995. It covers reports of growing child labor, advertising's corruption of the free press, and powerful lobbyists.
Excellent reading material, especially if you ever have a free afternoon and an overwhelming urge to completely depress yourself. The truth may be out there, but its never going to get airtime without corporate sponsorship.
From the back cover:
Based on the work of Project Censored, the nation's longest running media research project, 20 Years of Censored News reveals, year by year, the news stories neglected by the mass media when they were timely and lets us know what has happened to them since. From 1976 to 1995, the book provides an overview of the most censored news stories and issues of the past two decades. Of the 200 stories presented, less than 25 percent ever received the attention they deserve in the press. A disturbing report card of the media's long-term performance, one which the media did not pass, 20 Years of Censored News is a fierce indictment of the national news media's failure to keep the public informed.
READ ALL ABOUT IT: Who really owns America? What does the privatization of the internet mean to you? Should you worry about media monopolies? Is the U.S. still selling banned pesticides and drugs to Third World Countries? Does America have a secret police network? Which president was America's chief censor? Is the Freedom of Information Act an oxymoron? Is child labor worse today than ever before? Where was the worst nuclear spill in U.S. history? What is the most powerful secret lobby in Washington, DC? Is organic farming a fad or a profitable enterprise? How dependable are consumer product testing laboratories? How does corporate crime compare with street crime? Who is the world's leading "merchant of death"? How does advertising corrupt a free press?
