OK, I found three that meet the requirements. I haven't actually seen the Costco books, but they look good. There are other Rachel Ray books too, but I just added one. Of course, the best ones are all wishlisted or only have one copy in the system. I looked up several books I have that are wonderful (like Taste Pure And Simple, or Art of Simple Food) but no go for enough copies in the system. I am looking mostly for healthy eating, farmer's market, low carb or other kinds of cookbooks that are more oriented to healthy eating. Had to order two Williams Sonoma books I found while looking (Essentials of Grilling and Essentials of Roasting). I did notice that none of the better annual recipe collections have enough copies of any one year - like Southern Living, Taste of Home, Taste of Home Light and Healthy, Food and Wine, Bon Appetit or Gourmet. If enough of us have one of those series, maybe we could use that as a discussion topic. |

Anyone want to cook? Vote on what is on Chris' list or add a cookbook you like that has enough copies. Or tell us what series you already have listed in my last post that we all might use to discuss. Anyone else have Southern Living or Taste of Home? Or one of the other series? |

I cook a lot by instinct as well, just adding what I think might do well in spices or herbs or veggies. I hate celery so will always substitute something else like leeks. But I do use cookbooks for inspiration. Rarely do I do a recipe exactly as it states, except the very first time, or if it is a baking recipe because those need more precision. |

I do a lot of freestyle too but the internet has everything you could possibly want and that's where I get my recipes. It's so much easier to print off a recipe then if it gets splattered or anything you just throw it away and print a new one next time. I get a few cooking magazines too, I tear the good ones out and keep them in a file box. |

I tear up magazines too, I cut out the recipes and mount them into photo albums. The sticky paper is already there so no glue needed, and the clear acetate over the page keeps them clean. I have filled up four so far, three ring binder style and I add sheet protectors to them so I can add full pages. I cut out the pictures too, because I like looking at those. I look on the internet too. I have several Pinterest boards devoted to recipes. I still like a book in my hands though for most things. So, maybe we do an internet cooking thread? I'll be happy to moderate that one if you all want to do it. |

Well, I have plenty of credits so I will probably just pick up the winning cookbook. My health issues are better enough that I can make regular meals a few times a week, I still avoid processed anything though. I don't really have much of an opinion about which one though so I didn't vote. I like Rachel Ray and I make a lot of pasta so either way it's fine. I've had Costco cookbooks before, they put them out every year and if you show up at the right time you can get one for free. They are soft cover but usually pretty big, lots of big pictures. me again.....I just found out that if I put a book on my reminder list, it will give me a number of how many are available. I'm off to look up cookbooks! |

Hopefully there aren't a lot of Costco specific products needed for this book, there isn't a Costco within 200 miles of me. |

Mine rolled over to another member, but it was accepted this time. Not printed yet, so hope will get here on time. Chris, I don't think there is anything that could be in there that you couldn't find in any grocery store. Maybe not the brand they specify, but that shouldn't matter. The nearest Costco to me is a two hour drive away, not happening! |

Got mine today. I found a couple sides I'm gonna try one for scalloped potatoes and another for carrots. I'll probably get the fixin's for those two tomorrow.

page 36 Breakfast casserole I made it for a morning (church group) meeting I followed the recipe and added all the options. It looked beautiful when I took it out of the oven. When I started cutting I noticed the middle was runny, so I put it back in the oven and baked it for 10 more minutes, it was still a little "wet" so baked it for 5 more minutes. The top was a little brown so I added a little shredded cheddar (i forgot to tent it with foil) It was still little moist in the center, but no one seemed to mind and everyone said it was delicious. I took a piece home to my MIL and reheated it in the microwave and she loved it (she loves eggs.) It reheated very well and didn't dry out, had a good texture and flavor. I made it again at home except I left out the tomato and the same thing happened.....runny in the middle. I like the recipe but I need to modify it.....I'm thinking of either adding more cubed bread or less milk. Increasing the baking time only dries out the edges. Any suggestions?
PS the second time I made it, I used Italian spicy sausage (not Jimmy Dean) and it worked great. |
