Full challenge is ten reads while a mini challenge is five.  If you wish to read more in one category do so and simply list substitute in another catagory.

1. Local History: Read a non-fiction book dealing with the history of your area (city, state, region):

2. Award Winning: Read a non-fiction history book that has won any award:  

3. Over There: Read a non-fiction book dealing with (any war, battle, etc.): 

4. Uncle Sam: Read a non-fiction book dealing with America's political history (could be government, biography, local etc)

5. Natural or Environmental Disaster:  

6. Life and Times (Biography):  

7. Sports or other physical activity including personal (hiking, etc.) olympics, professional, college, etc.:

8. To Sea: Read a non-fiction book dealing with water (navy, local lore, regional, etc):  

9. Pride and Prejudice: Read a non-fiction dealing with minorities:  

10. Newby: Read a non-fiction book by a new to you author:  

11: Charity: Read a non-fiction book dealing with humanitarian events (for an idea is a good linkhttp://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/humanitarian):  

12: The World At Large: Read a non-fiction book that takes place in a country other than USA, or UK/

13.  Wild card (your nonfiction choice)

Substitutions:  Read any two non-fiction books of your choice to replace two of the categories above.  Simply list the category, say substitution and give the book title and author.

The Rules of the Challenge:

1. Pick either 6 categories for a lite challenge or 12 for the full challenge and enter titles as you choose them.

2. Books can be chosen and/or changed at any time through out the year

3. In order to mark the books completed, you have to have finished the book anytime between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 so anything you have read from Jan. 1, 2015 counts.

4. No book can not be used in two categories.  However, you may use a book from another challenge if it fits here.  Like in Goodreads, cross posting is encouraged for this challenge.

Local History: Read a non-fiction book dealing with the history of your area (city, state, region):  Jefferson and the Indians:  The Tragic Fate of the First Americans by Anthony Wallace - Indian policy during the Jeffersonian era; large focus on the Ohio river valley - 4 Stars -finished February 6

2. Award Winning: Read a nonfiction book that has won an award: Van Gogh: The Life - Excellent Biography that won The Society of Midland Authors Award for Biography in 2012 - 5 Stars -finished 8/14

3. Over There: Read a non-fiction book dealing with (any war, battle, etc.):The Plantagenets: The Warrier Kings and Queens Who Made England by Dan Jones - 4 stars - Finished 6/22

4. Uncle Sam: Read a non-fiction book dealing with America's political history (could be government, biography, local etc) Seeds of Extinction:  Jeffersonion Philanthropy and the American Indian   How the philosophies and thinking of the Enlightenment influenced government policies regarding the Indians.  Scholarly and a bit dry at times.  4 Stars -  Finished 1/30

5. Natural or Environmental Disaster:  The Sixth Extinction: An Unnaural History Looks at past periods of  5 major extinctions and claims that we are currently in the 6th  4 Stars - Finished 9/23

6. Life and Times (Biography):  Benjamin Franklin:  His Life and Times by Walter Isaacson 4 stars - Finished 2/16

7. Sports or other physical activity including personal (hiking, etc.) olympics, professional, college, etc.:

8. To Sea: Read a non-fiction book dealing with water (navy, local lore, regional, etc):  First Salute by Barbara Tuchman   - focuses on the role of the English and French navies in the American Revolution - 4 stars - Finished March 2

9. Pride and Prejudice: Read a non-fiction dealing with minorities: (Substitution) Believer by David Axelrod - personal memoir of Axelrod's political career, centering on his work on President Obama's campaigns and first administration - 4 stars - finished in June

10. Newby: Read a non-fiction book by a new to you author:  (Substition) The Wright Brothers by David McCullough - a history of the phenomenal contributions of the Wright Brothers - 4 stars - Finished in June

11: Charity: Read a non-fiction book dealing with humanitarian events (for an idea is a good linkhttp://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/humanitarian):  

12: The World At Large: Read a non-fiction book that takes place in a country other than USA, or UK/The Yellow House: Van Gogh, Gauguin and Nine Turbulent Weeks in Arles- deals with the period of Van Gogh's life when he was living in Arles, France - 4 stars - finished 9/7

13.  Wild card (your nonfiction choice)

Substitutions:  Read any two non-fiction books of your choice to replace two of the categories above.  Simply list the category, say substitution and give the book title and author.

1. Local History: Read a non-fiction book dealing with the history of your area (city, state, region):  Collector's Encyclopedia of Red Wing Art Pottery: Identification & Values by B.L. Dollen, 4/28/2015, 5 stars

2. Award Winning: Read a non-fiction history book that has won any award:   Fields of Light: A Son Remembers His Heroic Father (Pushcart Editors' Book Award) by Joseph Hurka

3. Over There: Read a non-fiction book dealing with (any war, battle, etc.):   The Last Ridge : The Epic Story of America's First Mountain Soldiers and the Assault on Hitler's Europe by Mckay Jenkins (H)

4. Uncle Sam: Read a non-fiction book dealing with America's political history (could be government, biography, local etc)

5. Natural or Environmental Disaster:  A Crack in the Edge of the World?

6. Life and Times (Biography):  Half a Life by Darin Strauss, 6/29/2015, 5 stars

7. Sports or other physical activity including personal (hiking, etc.) Olympics, professional, college, etc.:  SUBSTITUTION:  The Wright Brothers by David McCullough, 10/22/2015, 4 stars

8. To Sea: Read a non-fiction book dealing with water (navy, local lore, regional, etc):  River of the Golden Ibis by Gloria Jahodi (H)

9. Pride and Prejudice: Read a non-fiction dealing with minorities:  Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup

10. Newby: Read a non-fiction book by a new to you author:  The Haymakers: A Chronicle of Five Farm Families by Steven R. Hoffbeck, 7/7/2012, 3 stars
