Star Witch (Lazy Girl's Guide To Magic, Bk 2) by Helen Harper 1-1 was my first book of the year.  Wonderfully fun book and series!  Reminds me of Kristen Painter's Nocturne Falls series.

I am also reading a Helen Harper series

Wishful Thinking

I am waiting for it to get more exciting. I am hoping the first part of this book was just set up. I really liked the Lazy Girl series. I know there is two more in this series.

I just finished The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken. Absolutely loved it. Great characters, especially our main character, Keeley. Lots of humor in the book. Plot twist all over the place. I highly recommend.

I've also read these:

  1. The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion [Danielle Cain] by Margaret Killjoy 1-6  4.5 stars.  Great novella with a demon deer....original idea that's very well executed!
  2. Wake of Vultures (The Shadow) by Lila Bowen 1-9  4 stars.  I'm not usually a fan of old west settings, but this book was really good!  Loved Nettie Lonesome, even with all her insecurities.  She's a very believable character.
  3. The Sentinel [A Jane Harper Horror Novel] by Jeremy Bishop 1-10  4.5 stars.  Viking zombies, well.....sort of.  Awesome book!  Glad I have the next one TBR already.
  4. The Hand That Feeds by Michael W Garza 1-11  4 stars.  Gruesome zombie story.  How far would you go for your child?

I really enjoyed the Blacksmith Queen too! Great story. I just read Trail of Lightning, but Roanhorse, it was good, not awesome. Hoping I become more emotionally invested in the characters in the second book.  Working on Nicole Peelers' Jane True books, just started book 4. Silly but enjoyable. Books 5 & 6 should be great for all the travel I have coming up!

Magic for Liars was interesting. Not paranormal really, more magic exists in the real world. Love the writing!  And finally finished the Jane True books by Nicole Peeler. Silly, fun and satisfying (though she can be repetitious, I had to ignore that or it could have really bothered me.)

Currently reading The Red King by Jenn Stark. I never finished the first series with the same character who finds things with Tarot cards. I need to go back and finish that series as I am really enjoying this one :)  Sometimes I get all topsy turvy, but since it is a differnt adventure, its ok, even though it is a tiny bit spoilery about what "happens to her" at the end of the other series.

Just started One Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin, i have collected both of her trilogies and haven't read them yet. Shame on me, so since I am not joining many games and reduced my VBs I am reading my backlog and LOVING THIS BOOK SO FAR. anyway, just had to share.

I am reading Dragon Bones by Jasmine Walt. It is very good. Different. An immortal ancient race who do not always remember the past, but are super strong.  Very well written with bits of history thrown in.

I am reading All Too Famiiliar by Belinda White. Cute story but could use a little help with editing. I like to support the independantly published writers but I find their books need a bit of editing.

Has anyone else read Patricia Brigg's newest book Smoke Bitten? It was just okay for me.  This series used to be one of my favorites, seems like it way off the mark lately.
