Hoping to read one classic per month.  We'll see how that goes.

1.  The Waves by Virginia Woolf, 2/4/2024.  This is the most beautifully written book I have read for a long time.  Poetical and lyrical. 

2.  The Age of Innocence (Penguin Vitae) by Edith Wharton, 3/2/2024.  Discover a story about unrequited love and how others impact one's romantic feelings.

3.  The Optimist's Daughter by Eudora Welty, 4 stars.  Laurel McKelva Hand returns home to visit her dying father.  When he is gone she finds his recent wife is indeed difficult with whom to sort things out.  lnteresting read.

4.  Parnassus on Wheels (Common Reader Editions) by Christopher Morley, Christopher Morley, 3/23/2024, 4 stars.  This is a delighful tale about a woman who lives with her brother on Sable Farm.  When he begins writing books, he rambles about to collect material for his writing and she is left alone.  So she is until a traveling book seller arrives at the door.   Now she decides to go traveling, too, and the adventures begin.

5.  The Haunted Bookshop (Common Reader Editions) by Christopher Morley, 3/24/2024, 4 stars, a sequel to Parnassus on Wheels, Roger Mifflin and his wife, Helen, (Parnassus on Wheels)  now have opened his long dreamed in Brooklyn rather than selling books from his mobile bookstore as they trave about the country.  The bookshop is haunted by the ghosts of unread authors.  In addition, Roger and Helen have a mystery to solve with books coming and going from their shelves. 

6.  The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides, 5/25/2024, 4 stars.  A family with five daughters allow their daughters little to no contact with those their age.  As the novel progresses, thirteen-year-old Cecelia commits suicide by leaping from her bedroom window.  She lands on a pointed stake in their iron fence pierceing her heart.  The rest of the family grieves and eventually the four remaining daughters form a pact for grooup suicide.  One survives only to complete the act a few weeks later.  Sad story but well written.  

7.  If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino, 3 stars, 5/27/2024.  It's a love story, about writing books, about others using an author's work and publishing it elsewhere, banned books, and more.  Rather surreal read.

8.  Cormac McCathry The Orchard Keeper, Sut Tree, Blood Meridan Cormac McCarthy, 6/6/2024.  It's a bloody tale where many are murdered including innocents and normal citizens.

9.  The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood

This is a cool project! I'm doing a reading challenge to read some ancient and medieval books in 2024 (although one of the criteria I'm definitely going to struggle with)
