Bob Lee Swagger won't take "No" for an answer -- only this time it is in Japanese -- over and over again. Swagger is bucking the system; righting wrongs that Japenese society really wishes to ignore and let them go away.

Ranging from flashback scenes from Iwo Jima involving his father, to America and modern day Japan, this book is a chance for Stephen Hunter to bring to us his love of Samurai and Japanese swordplay. Often in very specific detail. While this story is wide ranging and has plenty of twists, turns, and surprises it often gets bogged down in the details. But details of Japanese words, terms, and historical figures can be hard for the reader to follow. I was very glad to be hearing it read to me rather than to have my eyes grow weary deciphering foriegn words. There were sections of the story which could easily have been edited for us Gaigin.

Overall the story works, and of course works out in Swaggers favor. Although he spends time in the hospital he has more energy in his 50s than I do. If you enjoy the Swagger books then let someone else read this one to you and you won't have to see the word ain't about a hundred times.
