For anyone who is familiar with Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns (an excellent compilation of names, illustrations, and information of origin of quilt block designs), 5500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone, should be the sister to it. It is excellent in its use of color to portray each quilt block, and the diagrams are very clearly drawn. Malone organizes the blocks in a little bit of a different way than does Brackman's Encyclopedia, which is why I cannot see why one would want to own one book without the other. I must add that this is not a book that provides directions to make the quilt blocks; however, a seasoned quilter could draft any one of these blocks from the illustrations provided, easily enough.
