I have yet to read a Matthew Scudder book that isn't better than the last. You just can't help but care about the character and all the things that happen to him and around him. No doubt, this is dark stuff. But in many ways its uplifting. Yes, there are 8 million ways to die. But there are also 8 million ways to live.
This book was just o.k to me. It was slow reading. I didn't get interested in it until the last 50 pages. Did not like the ending at all.
Excellent Lawrence Block suspense.
