This is a Harry Bosch detective story that is full of twists and turns that kept me glued to the book to its final conclusion. Harry and his partner get called to a liquor store murder which by all appearances is a store robbery gone bad. The clues point to a Chinese triad (gang) and Harry is even more convinced when he gets an anonymous call telling him to back off. To his horror, he receives a video of his teenage daughter tied up - problem is that she lives in Hong Kong with her mother. He knows time is short for his daughter and he gets the quickest flight to Hong Kong. Violence and dead bodies abound in Hong Kong and once he returns to L.A., even more conflicting details regarding the shooter come into play. I recommend Mr. Connelly's newest book to anyone who loves excitement and intrigue and twists.

Another great Harry Bosch book. Harry's daughter is living in Hong Kong with her mother. Maddy says that she wants to come live with him in the United States and Harry is dubious about his parenting skills. The mystery starts with a killing of a store owner than Harry has met years ago. He vows to catch the killer and puts everything into that endeavor. Lots of twists and turns that make this a very enjoyable book. I read the book in one day and wanted more. Michael Connelly again delivers a Superb read!!!

Harry Bosch does it again! When evidence in the murder of a local Chinese businessman points to a Chinese triad and Harry's daughter is kidnapped in Hong Kong, Bosch goes nuts. He travels to Hong Kong to kick some triad ass. (I told you he went nuts. LOL) Unfortunately, the situation is way worse than expected. Harry shoots his way through Hong Kong but the consequences are very grave.

The original investigation is stalled until Harry gets a lucky break - fingerprints from an unlikely source. Harry is a wonderfully complex character whose been through hell and back more than once. I love his investigative technique and his "can do" attitude. He is definitely one of my favorite detective characters. Michael Connelly's books are always quick reads with very detailed plot lines that keep you reading page after page.

What a compelling read!! This mystery/thriller will hook you from the first page. If you are a fan of the Harry Bosch detective, this is one of his best stories. His daughter lives in Hong Kong with Harry's ex and Harry gets news that she's been abducted! Somehow this connects with his current murder case in LA and he has to figure out how with only 2 days to spare. It is a wild race across the Pacific and back again before he figures it out. Who will come out of this mess alive? What a page-turner.

I will have to say that although I am a loyal reader of Michael Connelly, it did not seem that he wrote this book. Poor prose, choppy sentences, characters did not act true to nature, and Bosch's reckless and thoughtless actions are just not the norm. Did he farm this out to a ghostwriter? Say it isn't so!
His Mickey Haller books are still the real deal

It's great to be back with Harry Bosch! Harry starts out investigating the shooting of a Chinese liquor store owner in South LA. It appears gang-related, but Harry uncovers clues that show involvement of the triads. Then his daughter in Hong Kong is kidnapped, and Harry races across the globe in a desperate attempt to get her back.

Connelly still has quite a few tricks up his sleeve. He always manages to keep the reader in tune with his characters, and for most of the book the story proceeds as a straightforward thriller, with the reader agonizing with Harry all the way. It's only at the end that he throws in the unexpected twist, a surprise that throws a whole new light on the plot, and confirms once again why he is one of the top writers in the genre.

This was the first Harry Bosch book I have read, and I will read more.
Best book of this genre I have read in a long time. Not a real fan of international locations in books, but I could easily overlook that in this book.
