Great read! Very enjoyable and entertaining!
According to the terms of his grandfather's will, Alec MacLean has to marry "the daughter of the Earl of Fant" to inherit a much needed fortune. He arranges to elope with the miss in question, but she double crosses him and doesn't show up. Her cousin, Julia, the ubiquitous companion, does - she thinks it's a hackney and gets in.
Alec is of course furious, but what can he do? Julia gets tipsy and suggests a solution...
An enjoyable story, all in all. I'm a bit tired of the "I won't sleep with you even though we're married and we can't get a divorce in this day and age and you probably want children" etc story, but I realise that authors DO have to provide a way to delay the sex scenes till the middle of the book. :)

Can't wait to read the next book in series
Average historical romance. It was a very decent read, but just not a 'keeper' for me.
A good story with likable characters. I enjoyed it!
Loved the story. Could not put down until finished.
This is a wonderful book. You have all of the things a book needs: Jealousy, Scandal, an Ugly Duckling, and last but not least a perfect ending.
It's basically about a missish cousin of a selfish debutante who hatches a plan with the hero to inherit a fortune. She plans to use it for noble causes such as funding a chairity and he plans to gamble and drink it away. So wouldn't you know their heads lock at every turn while the villians try to ruin them.
Great Read!

Liked the switch and the fun that came with it. A fun story and interesting characters. Storyline was well done and moved along very well. A fun read.
Pretty good. Alec and Julia are fairly well flushed-out and interesting characters. The plot flows along well but the highs and lows are not particularly high or low. I'm not sure if that is good or bad but it wasn't a terribly emotional story. I liked them, rooted for them, rooted against the bad guys, but it wasn't very dramatic. Karen Hawkins did establish the foundation for a series and the side characters were also interesting and I look forward to reading about them in the future.
The sensuality in the book was OK, not very hot but not completely glossed over. The historical accuracy - hard to tell because there weren't too many details in the book. There are a few situations and a few pieces of dialogue that seem unlikely for the time but those can be forgiven for a good story.
Overall a B for story, B- for sensuality (if you can grade sexiness), and B for overall writing style. I'll read this author again. I wasn't bowled over but I liked it enough to stay up late to finish.
