A dark book about a murder of an abortionist. For a mystery I thought the identity of the murderer was pretty obvious (and I don't like to figure those out ahead of time) but I think the author was focusing on the characters and relationships more. This book is pretty depressing- it includes graphic descriptions of abortions, some child pornography, an annoying psycho and just an overall dark tone that follows when people hide dark secrets under a facade of perfection. Despite all that, it was a fast-paced read that held my interest and was well-written.

I will probably be in the minority by saying that I really did not care for this book. It seems to me that the author broke a couple of the really big rules of fiction writing. Yet, she got good reviews from Anita Shreve and Maureen Corrigan (NPR), so what do I know?

WOW- I finished this in a day. It was a great mystery of who killed the abortion doctor and how it affects her family, neighbors and police investigating the crime.

Although I personally don't agree with abortion, I found this book impossible to put down after reading just one or two pages. The author tries very hard to be objective not pushing either side. The story of the relationships between the doctor, her husband, her daughter, the daughter's ex boyfriend, all make for a very good attention consuming story.

An engrossing murder mystery that loses steam at the end. Some readers may be upset by the content (teen sex, drug use, internet porn, abortion).

This interesting story of the murder of an abortion doctor moves quickly. I wouldn't exactly say it is a mystery--the identity of the murderer was not difficult to determine--but more an exploration of the characters and their relationships with one another. I did like the way the author unfolded this story, exposing several points of view behind the events of the day of the murder. Worth the read, in my opinion.

Easy summer read but not nearly as great as I was lead to believe...

This book is out of my normal genres but I had heard a lot about it and thought I would give it a try. I guessed who committed the murder pretty much right away, but it was still neat reading to find out how the cops figured out who did it. I do however wish there was more of a story line between Huck and Megan. While it was good, I will say it wasn't a favorite of mine, but I would recommend it to others.

I read this book thinking it might be interesting in that I have been actively pro-life for many years and to see another side of the abortion industry and mindset. I also do enjoy mysteries to some degree. However, I found this book a bit too depressing, dark and sexually descriptive for my tastes. I almost didn't finish it, but really hate to "not finish" something. It was not worth my time reading and is one of only a very few books I have not kept after reading, therefore, am listing it on PBS for those that have different opinions as I do!

I loved this book and read it in a day. I would classify it as fiction over mystery, as the murder and its investigation merely provide the setting for the exploration of character relationships. Unresolved issues among the main characters are the focus, with a "too little, too late" resolution.

Read this book in one day, as it's easy to read and fast-moving. It's pretty obvious who the murderer is and his motives, but for some reason I liked this book. If you enjoy Jodi Picoult's books, you should try this one out.

Very quick read. Unfortunately wasn't much of a "whodunit?" but I could empathize with some of the characters and thought it was well written.

So-so mystery.

Honestly, I didn't love this book. The moral predicament felt fairly trite to me, and the murderer felt fairly obvious. Throughout the book, she never really made me care about any of the characters. In my opinion, if you want to read a stirring story about the grey areas surrounding abortion, pick up a copy of The Cider House Rules by John Irving. There's one that actually lives up to the first line of the book description for this book (especially if you change "Colorado" to "Maine").

This was a quick interesting read. Not a hard core mystery as it's pretty easy to figure out who the killer is, but it's worth the time.

I had a hard time getting through this one. The beginning was good but after about sixty pages or so it just seemed to drag on.

I loved this book. It was a quick read with a strong storyline, and a little bit of a twist. Good "family mystery"

Great book! It has a very interesting plot and the characters feel really human and sympathetic. One of the best books I've read this summer!

It's pretty good, but definitely not great. I saw the end coming almost since the beginning, which kinda sucks. But, I did finish it, which says something.

This was the first book I've read by this author. I read it in one day while home with the flu. It was a well-written, who-done-it, that kept me guessing until the end. I enjoyed the storyline regarding the mother's controversial profession; very interesting and I am sure, true to life. A great read!
