I am a big fan of Barclay, and this is one of his best! I save my five stars for only the most exceptional books I've read, and this isn't quite that exceptional, but it's way up there.
This hair raising story of a seemingly "nice" neighborhood and the middle class families who live there during these fiancially stressful times, begins with a woman dying in a horrific car accident which also kills two other people. The accident was apparently caused by the woman's drunken driving. Sadly she leaves behind a grieving husband and eight year old daughter. The husband, not believing that his wife could have been so irresponsible, delves into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and gradually becomes aware of some mysterious facts. Thus begins a roller coaster ride of murder, numerous suspects, crime in the suburbs, and much, much more. Fast moving and never dull, this is an exciting read!

Stephen King listed this book as one of his "must-reads" for the summer, so naturally I had to read it. This book defies description, really. It is a thriller that will keep you awake at night and turning the pages, unable to put it down. I've never read one of Mr. Barclay's books before, but this will not be the last I read. It starts when Sheila, the wife of a building contractor is killed in a car accident deemed to be her fault for DUI which also kills two other people. Her husband doesn't believe that she could have done this and sets out to find out what really happened to her. Along the way, he encounters corrupt police, counterfeiting rings, prostitution, and murder. Just read this book. Trust me on this.

Glen Garber is horrified to find out his wife, Sheila, was killed in an accident on the way home from night school after driving drunk up an interstate off-ramp. Since this was totally uncharacteristic behavior by his wife, Glen vows to trace Sheila's last hours and find out what drove her to drink. Still reeling from the news, Glen and his daughter, Kelly, are once again shocked when they find out Sheila's friend, Ann Slocum, was killed in a drowning accident. Glen finds that Sheila and Ann had been selling knock-off purses and pharmaceuticals in order to make money for their families. As he investigates Sheila's movements through the last day of her life, Glen begins to wonder if her death was an accident or murder.
Wow! This book was a non-stop roller coaster ride with lots of twists I didn't see coming. I stayed up late to finish this one because I couldn't put it down. This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be my last. My rating: 5 Stars.

I truly enjoyed this book. I had a hard time putting it down. Just when I thought I had figured it out something else would happen. This is my second book that I have read and enjoyed by L Barclay.
Excellent page-turner with some unexpected twists.
This story weaves around various friends and neighbors of the Garbers, except nothing is as what you see. Trying to figure out who did what and why is half the fun of this book. A huge surprise at the end was great.
lots of twists and turns. keeps you from setting the book down until the finish.

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading The Accident which was a real page-turner and I read it in one day. Never saw the ending of this one and was greatly surprised. This was my first Barclay book but won't be my last.
