Fantastic story of a boy & his adventures set in the Middle Ages. My girls loved it as a read-aloud, & I'm sure boys would like it even better. It's one of my family's all time favorite read-aloud books!

Oh, this takes me back to Jr. High days! The story of a young boy separated from his juggler father and the ensuing search for family and daily protection and food, were and introduction to life in the Middle Ages. It was a delight to read 60 years ago.

This is an interesting story for young, and old, boys. It takes place in 13th century England and gives you a good idea of how people lived back then, using the story of a young boy's travels across England to teach that history.

This is also a Newberry Award book.

From the back cover:
"I want to go with you," Adam tells his father. But the roads of early England were home to bands of thieves and robber knights - not just to minstrels like Adam and his father.
Before their journey has harldy begun, Adam's beloved dog, Nick, is stolen and his father disappears. Adam is 11 years old, but he travels the road alone, searching the fairs and market towns for his father and his dog.
