Unlike his other books, Laymon writes from the point of view of the murderer. It made the main character very unlikable and it was hard to care what happened to her. Though half-way through I started to sympathize with her. Basically, this "Alice" goes on a killing spree and doesn't get caught (I can tell you that because you learn it on the first page of the book) and the story chronicles her adventures. It starts out where she is house-sitting, kills someone semi-accidentally, and has to hide her crime- then everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. I suppose in a sick way it is sort of funny all the things that happened, but this book surely isn't for the faint-hearted. Also, I thought the ending was very unrealistic. Not only that, I kept thinking that this book just panders to the lowest of the reader's instincts. It doesn't really have much substance or complexity. Just violence and murder after murder. And then, a character comes in, has sex with Alice a number of times, and then goes right out of the story. It was as if Laymon thought to himself "hmmm, this is getting boring, let's throw in some sex, that should keep 'em reading." I don't know. I usually love Laymon. And this was mildly entertaining. But nothing like his other novels, this one was a flop compared to them.

Alice has quite a story to tell you. That's not her real name, not after all the things she reveals about herself in this book. All of her adventures. And all that killing. She wouldn't want the police to find her, now would she?
What can I say it's a Richard Laymon book, either you love him or hate him. I love the guys stories and this is an entertaining tale.

A really strange book.
Once the killing starts it doesn't stop!
Brilliant! Alice (not her real name)has quite a story to tell you! Laymon keeps you hooked as you read Alice's tale and the body count rises!
This book will definately keep you glued to your seat and absolutely shocked! If you want a great read....this is it!
One of my favorite laymon books! I loved this one.. alot weirder from most of his and a really good story! I didn't want to put it down.. I found it funny and really really weird.. he thinks up some of the strangest stories. Another great fomr laymon!
This book was quite different from the other two books of his that I have read. It was exciting, but bordering a bit on silly with the series of events and the dark humour filling the pages. I really enjoyed it - though I must admit, the part with Murphy made me pretty sad... Still, it was a fun book. Richard Laymon is a very talented writer.
Wonderful! He's a great author.
Oh my Alice! What a complex and totally awesome girl....you might love her or hate her in the end, but it was a real adventure getting to know her. The plot, with all it twists and turns, keep you turning the pages and burning the midnight oil. Very good read....enjoy!
I didn't think this book was as good as other Laymon books I have read.
