I was disappointed in the last few books from this series but this one was great. Claire was smart and a great character. Ben was pretty much like all the other guys but with the addition of a son made it interesting. The end was a little rushed with the second plot line but overall it was a quick, entertaining read.

Ben Slocum is a seasoned PI, was a former Navy SEAL, and right now a well-honed machine able to take a hit and get back up running. When Claire Chastain shows up at his door and tells me that he not only has a son that boy has been kidnapped Ben could have been knocked down by a feather.

Of course at first Ben did not believe it but Claire showed him one picture that closed the door on doubt. Now Ben goes into search and find mode, using every resource he has to get his son back and figure out what it means to be a father. Claire insists on tagging along because she knows the boy as she was his caseworker and her guilt at letting this happen is more than she can handle.

Ben says no, but Claire lays out her case of take me or I will follow, a great argument when fully considered and Ben really wanted to keep Claire as close as possible. The hunt becomes a chase and the chase turns into a nightmare as revelations of just who has Ben's son is and the potential implications of how truly dangerous this situation has turned into. Ben plots his plan of rescue and only when he has his son home does he take a quiet breath of relief that is short lived when he awakes to another nightmare that requires his ability to function under pressure.
