FROM THE PUBLISHER
Agatha Raisin is feeling miserable--and with good reason. Her ex-husband, James, has abandoned her, and she's been humiliated by an unseemly proposition from John Armitage, her handsome neighbor. So complete is her devastation that Agatha has given up on makeup and taken to wearing the loose cotton dresses and flat, sensible shoes she has always abhorred.
But there is light at the end of this dark and lonely tunnel, and its source is Carsely's beatific new curate, Tristan Delon. With his golden hair, large blue eyes, and perfect mouth, Tristan has attracted the interest of more than a few of his female congregants. And to her surprise, he seems to have taken a special interest in Agatha.
Despite his charms, however, there is something odd about the curate, and after he's found dead in the vicar's study, it's up to Agatha and John to investigate.

Thirteenth Agatha Raisin book in which a new man comes to down to perk up Aggie's flagging interest. The curate sent to help out Rev. Bloxby is a nearly perfect, angelic looking man who has the locals flocking to church every Sunday. Some people can see through his guise and refer to him as "slimy" but Agatha is smitten and accepts an invitation to dinner at the home of an elderly parishioner where Tristan, the curate, is being housed. When he turns up dead the next day, guess who's thrown headfirst into the fray? With her usual "Watsons" Roy Silver and Sir Charles Fraith out of the picture, Agatha's new neighbor John Armitage, the author of detective stories, helps her investigate. Enjoyable visit to Carsely, and in this one, Agatha seems to show her soft side a bit more.

Ok, sometimes I'm not sure if I like the character of Agatha, but the stories are twisted and odd ball enough that one gets hooked.

I don't usually read cozy mysteries so i don't know how good this is considered for a cozy. I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 primarily because it held my interest and I finished it. It was cute, the first Agatha Raisin murder mystery I've ever read so I didn't know what to expect. I expect that Agatha is the kind of character that really grows on you over time so I'll probably read another one. I think there are at least 22 of them. She is an amateur detective in a small English village, near London, I think. She has assisted the police solve murders before. She seems to have a knack for figuring things out and more often than not gets herself into some serious predicaments. In this case, a beloved curate is murdered in the village. It becomes clear to Agatha, though, that the curate was not as great as everyone, particularly the women he fleeced out of their money, seemed to think. As the investigation progresses and Agatha uncovers more ugly secrets, the bodies begin to pile up. Agatha nearly joins the pile but all's well that ends well.
