#7 Agatha Raisin in which she comes out of retirement to work for a local company that is going to bottle and sell water from an ancient spring in nearby Anscombe. When Agatha finds a dead body at the fountain where the spring is channeled through, publicity is bound to soar. The dead man is the parish council chairman, who would have had the tie-breaking vote in deciding whether the council supported the water company's efforts, but did his death really have anything to do with the council, or with something in his personal life? Well, you-know-who is going to snoop around and find out, of course. This one starts heading a bit backwards on the annoying, whiny Agatha front, pining for her boring neighbor James again. Still, there is something I really like about her and can't give up yet!

I love this author....first one that I have read of the Agatha Raisin..very easy read...book keeps your interest throughout...highly recommended

This was definitely one of the more enjoyable Agatha Raisin novels. I thought it was much funnier, and I loved the part about Agatha going on a tirade about smoking cigarettes with herself in her mind. I especially loved how James was less of a focal point in this book, and I am glad that Agatha is finally getting over him. I really hate his character! All in all, a fun and fast read.

Very well writen. Great Agatha Raisin book! This would be a nice start if you have not read anything by MC Beaton before, or have missed books in the Agatha Raisin series. A must read!

I enjoyed this mystery set in the Cotswolds, England. Agatha Raisin is a feisty lady with many "boyfriends." Unexpected revelations of life in rural England.

If you find all those "sweet little old lady detective" stories set in the bucolic English countryside a bit cloying, you need Agatha Raisin. She's nosy, catty, and grumpy. People in her village don't hesitate to tell her to butt out of their business. And she's got an on-again/off-again relationship with the codget next door. Good antidote to the "Murder She Wrote" stuff. Entertaining.

If you get into Agatha Raisin mysteries, you will be dragged along with Agatha's grumpy attitude and self esteem issues. But she always prevails and ends up on her feet like her two cats.

This time, the feisty sleuth stumbles upon the vitim of and unnatural death in a Cotswold village's famous natural spring. Who was the unlucky corpse? The Anacombe Parish Council chairman-- and the only uncommitted member voting on whether to allow the Ancombe Water Company to tap into th etown's spring. Add ex-fiance James, watery politicians, and slippery entrepreneurs to teh mix, and you have Agatha up to her neck in a murky murder mystery.

I love cozies, but usually after book 5 or 6 in a series I get bored with it (really how many villagers can be killed off before everyone leaves?). That is not the case with the Agatha Raisin books. I love the characters, the village, and I haven't been able to guess the killer in any of the books. Every time I think I've figured it out there's a new twist. This title was a nice addition to the series. The only thing I didn't care for is how Agatha keeps letting Roy into her life. He is no friend I'd want to have.

Although several of the members have recommended the Agatha Raisin series, this is the first one I've read and I enjoyed the book. I found Agatha my kind of women a fiesty individual who will not take crap from anyone. Her character is funny, smart and human...she makes mistakes like we all do, but that is what makes this book great. In this one, she is hired to do PR for a company who wants to tap the town spring against the objection of town people who don't want it vs those who think it will bring in money. VG

In this book Agatha stumbles across an elderly man in a local spring. Was he murdered or did he slip and hit his head? (We already know that answer!) The spring is the center of contention, with a company looking to bottle and market the water. When another person is murdered during a village fete, fingers point in many different direction. In the meantime Agatha has been doing the marketing for the company bottling the water and gets involved with one of the (younger) owners. Will she manage to find the murdered before she becomes a victim herself? (Again, we already know the answer, don't we?) Many choices for the murderer in this one - all totally unlikable!
