I've loved most of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' books, and this is one of my favorites. A yummy hero and a strong and interesting heroine--don't miss this one!

This is the first Susan Elizabeth Phillips book I've read, but I enjoyed it so much that it won't be the last. It is amusing, witty, and kept me reading to the last page.

Perfect complement of storyteller and narrator. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be wholly entertained. The BEST book I have read in a long time... I did not want it to end!

Completely entertaining, funny, heart-wrenching, vivid clash of personalities as memorable as Rhett and Scarlett.

Phillips's wicked sense of humor combined with romance makes for great reading.

Very witty, and full of great bickering script. Didn't care for the revenge plot, but the ending is sweet.

Loved the book. A romance with undertones of the yaya sisterhood group of ladies.

Romantic and funny. An awarding tale of going home again.

I loved this book. Susan Elizabeth Phillips does a wonderful job of drawing you into the characters. I laughed and cried. Don't get too far from a tissue as you read the end.

I really liked this book. The language is a bit course at times, but it fit the characters' personalities. I loved the witticisms exchanged between Sugar Beth and Colin.

Being from Mississippi, I love any book that is set in the my home state and this one is no exception. Sugar Beth Carey has come back to Parrish, Mississippi and she has brought her reputation for wrecking havoc with her. This is a great read.

I loved this book! My first time reading this author and I will be checking out more from her!

Ms. Phillips has a wonderful talent for sympathetically drawing flawed, human characters with redeeming qualities. I love her books because even though you may know the two protagonists are going to end up together, it's the journey that proves fascinating.

This is one of my favorite books... The characters are so good. I normally stick to historical romance - but I really like this author. The characters are very real, the dialogue is rich and funny - laugh out loud in some parts. I have read this book three times! Can't recommend highly enough.
Helpful Score: 1
Beware: This author is cruel. Her stories will inflict sore aching ribs, shortness of breath, teary eyes and sleepless nights!
Aint She Sweet? is about a spoiled, rich southern beauty returning to her home town out of necessity after years of being gone. As a young girl, Sugar Beth Carey had dispensed more than her share of snobbish attitude, thoughtless pranks, and even malicious acts to those surrounding her. She's had a lot of years to grow up and mend her ways. But when she returns home a wiser and more sensitive woman, all of her old enemies are still there, just waiting for their pound of flesh from the woman they still see as self-centered and spoiled. Sugar Beth is willing to let them have a bit of deserved payback from her...but only to a point.
This author has a complex, intelligent style of writing, along with a wicked sense of humor. I laughed out loud at least a dozen times while reading this story. The verbal sparring of the main characters put me in mind of Kate and Petruchio from "Taming of the Shrew". When Sugar Beths chief enemy, hunky Colin Byrne, installs chain across Sugar Beth's driveway, she responds by pushing her dog through the hedges to do his business in Colin's manicured yard. When Colin coerces Sugar into being his housekeeper and allows her to use only the back door in what was once her family home, she retaliates by using his Waterford crystal as a dog dish and generally makes Colin's life as difficult as she possibly can, knowing that he's enjoying his opportunity to humble her too much to fire her. As Colin and Sugar Beth cross swords in their battle of wills, their mutual resentments gradually transition into mutual respect and then into even deeper, more complicated and unsettling feelings.
The character development skills of this author are impressive. Possessing amazing insight into emotional relationships, she strikes resonant chords within my own emotional memories and touches me like no other author I've read. I felt I actually knew the people in the story and cared about what might happen to them. The characters all had depth and subtlety. Even the dog had a personality that made me like him! As the principle characters were fleshed out and their inner thoughts revealed, I found myself considering how often I might also share in their flaws such as misjudging the intentions of others. As much as I hate to do so (and get embarrassed when caught in the act), I shed more than a few tears over the heartaches of these fabricated people of Parrish, Mississippi. Ms. Phillips has quite a gift for sucking readers into her stories. Aside from the prerequisite happy ending, Ms. Phillip's plots are unpredictable, and can include some jaw-dropping surprises.
Being a long-time Mississippi resident, I can say that this author, despite being a Yankee, bless her heart, truly nailed the ambiance of living in the Deep South, where this particular tale takes place. I'm going to go find my "Coca-Cola Cake" recipe now, and give a call to my Aunt Nellie Jo. (Yes, really, y'all.) I do declare that, yes, we really are proud of our state's famous writers, just as Ms. Phillips mentioned in her story. Some of our Mississippi Writers Guild members even do great impersonations of those renowned authors in presentations to school children and other interested parties. Ain't no lie! Ms. Phillip's other books have varied settings, but she certainly is no slouch when it comes to doing her research.
I've developed dark circles under my eyes now from sleep deprivation and it's all the fault of Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I kept looking for a place to stop and put her book down, but when I'd get to the end of a chapter, there would inevitably be some outrageous twist in the plot that would mercilessly hook me and drag me bleary-eyed right into the next chapter. I hope she feels guilty!
"Ain't She Sweet?" is the first book by this author that I have read, but SEP books have become an instant addiction. Susan Elizabeth Phillips has become my new favorite author. I've only had one other fave author in nearly 50 years (J.R.R. Tolkien - and a daughter named "Eowyn" as a result), so that's not a frivolous compliment. I'm on the fourth book now in less than two weeks and plan to read them all...and collect them to keep on my bookshelves to reread again. I'm babbling on so. Must be a "Sugar high"!
P.S. The love scenes are smokin', too!

Out of all of Susan's books. This was my ultimate favorite. I would read it again and again. I recomend anyone to read this book if they are looking for something funny, sad and yet very good romance. I don't think I laughed so much or cry so much as for a book. This is a book for those that are looking for this combination!!

I wasn't sure I was going to like this book, what with a tarnished and obviously flawed heroine and an unattractive hero (I'll admit to being shallow about these things when reading romance novels!), but I LOVED this book. It didn't take me long to fall in love with the characters and I thoroughly enjoyed their story. This book made me laugh at least as many times as it made me want to cry.

I was expecting something a little more trashy instead of this delightful work of fiction. Story is well written and takes you on the journey of a woman who has battled through life with her wit. Compelling, I read it all in one sitting.

Pretty good book. It is fun to root for the "bad girl".
Can you ever go home again; especially in the South when you were 'it' in High School. Loved this book, great story continued to entertain to the end.
Again another hit from SEP
Another great book by Phillips. I couldn't put it down.
SEP knows how to grab a girl by the heart and keep her grasping to turn the page.
During the pivotal scene in the book, I felt just like the main character, my hands were shaking, my heart was clenched, and my mouth was dry. I read the book in 1 day (ended at 5:00 a.m.)
The end was not the best, but the whole book is funny, sad, and poignant all at the same time. LOVED it!~

I loved this book! I read this and Match Me if You Can, and I must say that I am really impressed with Phillips style and creativity.
Good Book!
Funny, sexy, fast, wonderful and hilarious. Can't read it without laughing out loud sometimes. Delicious humor.
SEP at her best! loved it!
Could hardly put this book down and not because I wanted to find out what happened next but because I fell in love with all the characters! What a wonderful story with such a sweet message. Sugar Beth is hardly the normal heroine but I fell in love with her anyway. Of course I spent the first part of the book wondering if the author didn't want us to hate her as much as like her. The verbal sparring was excellent and the one liners were classic! I really enjoyed this book for many reasons, excluding the neat little packaging at the end, but mainly because this story was about flaws. Strangely enough I began to love the characters not in spite of their flaws but because of them. See how far we can come...
Mt favorite SEP novel! Believable flawed characters, steamy sex and witty dialogue! Loved every minute of it.
LOVE THIS BOOK!
I am a huge fan of SEP. I have read 99% of all her books. This is my top 2.
Sugar Beth Carey's come back to Parrish, Mississippi, and she's brought her reputation for wreaking havoc with her. She's broke, desperate, and too proud to show it, even with her old enemies lining up for a chance to get even. Her Former girlfriends have their eyebrow pencils sharpened into lethal points. Winnie Davis, her longtime rival, is fully armed with the money, power, and prestige that had once been Sugar Beth's. But worst of all is Colin Byrne, the man whose career Sugar Beth had destroyed and not exactly accidentally.
Now Colin's a famous novelist living in Sugar Beth's old mansion, and this modern day dark prince is using his writers imagination to figure out how to bring the towns beautiful former princess to her knees. But despite her sassy mouth, feisty spirit, and hardheaded ways, Sugar Beth's no longer the spoiled rich girl they all remember. No, now she's a woman to be reckoned with... and a great big reckonin' is about to happen, not least of all for one dark prince who might-just might-be thinking about falling in love with the wickedest girl in town.

I love this book. One of my favorite romances I have ever read. Sadly, I have misplaced my copy so I am ordering a new one. :)
Fast, funny, romantic comedy. GREAT characters
A great read. True Southern comfort and "small town charm". Great humor and a wonderfully romance. Love the solid characters. You almost fill you know them. While are two great central characters, the entire cast are the heroines and heroes. I would loge to see this in a movie.
A GREAT READ AND VERY ENTERTAINING. I'D RECMOMMEND IT FOR SURE. IT'S A FAST READ, BUT IT'S ALSO A GREAT BOOK - I WAS SURPRISED SINCE I'VE NEVER READ THIS AUTHOR. YOU'LL ENJOY IT FOR SURE.
This is awesome
SEP is one of my favorite authors. With main character Sugar Beth Carey, she has written another book full of funny zingers and a great love story. Enjoy!
The girl everybody loves to hate has returned to the town she'd sworn to leave behind forever. As the rich, spoiled princess of Parrish, Mississippi, Sugar Beth Carey had broken hearts, ruined friendships, and destroyed reputations. But fifteen years have passed, and life has taught Sugar Beth its toughest lessons. Now she's come home -- broke, desperate, and too proud to show it.
The people of Parrish don't believe in forgive and forget. When the Seawillows, Sugar Beth's former girlfriends, get the chance to turn the tables on her, they don't hesitate. And Winnie Davis, Sugar Beth's most bitter enemy, intends to humiliate her in the worst possible way.
Then there's Colin Byrne. . . . Fifteen years earlier, Sugar Beth had tried to ruin his career. Now he's rich, powerful, and the owner of her old home. Even worse, this modern-day dark prince is planning exactly the sort of revenge best designed to bring a beautiful princess to her knees.
But none of them have reckoned on the unexpected strength of a woman who's learned survival the hard way.
While Sugar Beth's battered heart struggles to overcome old mistakes, Colin must choose between payback and love. Does the baddest girl in town deserve a second chance, or are some things beyond forgiving?
Ain't She Sweet? is a story of courage and redemption. . . of friendship and laughter. . . of love and the possibility of happily-ever-after.

Once the most popular girl in Parrish, Mississippi, Sugar Beth Carey left a trail of broken friendships, failed loves and destroyed reputations behind. Now she is back, forced to serve as a maid in her old home, forced to serve those she betrayed.
Loved this book and the characters. Lots of twists and imagination. Good quick read.
I have read this book a couple of times and have enjoyed it EVERY time!!
Fun light reading for vacations or travel.
I really enjoyed this book, bless its heart, mostly for the hero Colin and his British dandy-isms juxtaposed against the antics of the large Southern cast of characters. Hopefully that mouthful of a sentence made sense. The book made me laugh out loud, especially when Sugar Beth would call him "Your Grace". After reading I ordered several more of SEP's works.
Ain't She Sweet was the 1st book that I read by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and I have been hooked on her writing ever since. This is one of her best! Her books always contain women with a strong personality and a man that you love to hate and hate to love.
Excellent book. This author is one of my favorites.
I didn't think I'd like this book to be perfectly honest. However, the author created a realistic story with so many problems, not overly done, but told the story in such a way you were hung to every word. I liked all the characters, Sugar Beth (though not the name), I liked Colin and Winnie and Ryan and Gigi. They all grew and you enjoyed the unravelling of this great story. A real good read! (or listen as I did)
Absolutely loved it
Great read. Funny heart warming story of love, friendship and happily ever after.
Really a good book, a good story line.
It took me awhile to appreciate Sugar Beth. A spoilt child who returns to her home town with a chip on her shoulder. After seeing how she was treated by the townsfolk though, even if she did deserve it, really bothered me. Watching her grow and come into her own had me cheering her on!
Excellent!
I couldn't put it down

I loved this book. Susan Elizabeth Phillips is a great author. I have read all of her books to date, and you can expect to always have a great read, this book is no exception.

Sugar Beth grew up in a small town and when she was in her high school years she was both popular and a mean girl. She is returning but only to get some things from her inheritance and then leave, but she is confronted by people from her past and she has to choose how she is going to respond.
Sugar Beth ends up living in the guest house of her childhood home and I loved how one of the people she persecuted ended up living in her childhood home. The many times that she is hurt by the people in the past, I loved her many reactions. Eventually the story gets to the love part and I completely loved it. The relationship didn't start easy and had some speed bumps, but I loved how Colin treated her and didn't completely forgive her of her past at the beginning.

The relationship didn't start easy and had some speed bumps, but I loved how Colin treated her and didn't completely forgive her of her past at the beginning.
A bittersweet story of courage and love, revenge and redemption.

SEP is one of my all time favorite authors. I loved this book as much as I love all the others. She is such a talented writer and storyteller.
Sugar Beth Catey's come back to Parrish, MS, and she's brought her reputation for wreaking havoc with her. She's broke, desperate, and too proud to show it, even with her old enemies lining up for a chance to get even. A romance with bite in it.
Sugar Beth Carey has come back to her hometown of Parrish Mississippi to live. Formerly, she grew up in this town as a sassy mouthed, wicked, spoiled little rich girl. Now she is broke and desperate. This change in circumstances makes for a spicy story showing that human nature is mostly forgiving and good.
Some unexpected things happen in this book that make it funny, fast, and a good read.

I didn't think I would like Sugar Beth but I did. I especially liked that she wasn't all apologetic and regretful at the start and that she maintained some of her snotty ways. It's also great because no one is really a bad guy here and everyone has a story to tell.
The side story of trying to find the painting is very similar to "Heroes Are My Weakness" plot (not sure which book came first) but the characters are just slightly different enough to make it interesting.
A lot of humor and sassiness that I have come to count on with Phillips books. Well worth the read.

Definately a fun read!
A funny, heartwarming, oh-so-spicy story of love, friendship, and the possibility of happily-ever-after.

I enjoy enything this author writes and this one is one of her best.

I really enjoyed this book, it had a wonderful storyline with a very strong woman who is making something of herself even in the worst of times. Makes you laugh out loud at her southern sass.
Great book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, in great shape.
She's the baddest girl in town....Isn't she???
Old wounds and romances are rekindled. But can she give up some of her pride and he some of his resentment...Still she is a woman to be reckoned with!!!

Very good but rather sexy!
I couldn't get into it.
I could not put this book down!

A small town's prodigal daughter returns to face her past in bestseller Phillips's latest cheeky, diverting fairy tale. Sugar Beth Carey, "the wild child of Parrish, Mississippi," was once the queen of all she surveyed, but after 15 years and three marriages, she's a broken (and broke) husk of her former self. Who's loving the schadenfreude? The Seawillows, for starters-the gaggle of Southern belles Sugar dumped years ago, plus Winnie Davis, the half-sister she treated like dirt. And there's more: not only did Sugar stomp on gorgeous Ryan Galantine's heart (luckily, Winnie caught him on the rebound), she also got Colin Byrne, the sexy British high school teacher, fired for ostensibly coming on to her. Colin now owns her family's manse, and she's inherited the carriage house on his property-along with a highly valuable painting, location unknown (might it be hiding in Colin's attic? Or is it right under her nose?). Phillips keeps the tension high, with Colin (now a successful writer and member of the town's "in" crowd) and all of the rest of Parrish looking to make Sugar pay for past misdeeds. Colin hires her to be his housekeeper, and soon their days are filled with bickering, backstabbing and lots of orgasmic sex. A subplot involving Gigi, Winnie and Ryan's rebellious teenage daughter, who somewhat improbably turns to Sugar Beth for advice, detracts from the primary drama. The novel is at its best when Phillips sticks with what she does best-fast-paced romps featuring two headstrong people who finally realize that they're soul mates.

This is a sweet contemporary romance. The main characters get together fairly quickly...the tension comes when they have to decide whether they want to stay together when the down-and-out heroine gets a chance to return to the big city and a great job opportunity.
From the back jacket: No one is more surprised than Colleen Collins when she's offered a job writing fluffy magazine articles about rural Texas cooking. The big-city investigative reporter knows nothing about goats, prickly pears, or peafowl, and to make matters worse, she can't even cook. But thanks to a political scandal that cost Collie her job, her boyfriend, and now -- with this demeaning assignment -- her self-respect, she has no choice but to drag herself out of bed and head to the Texas hill country.
After only a few days in the charming little town of San Saline, Collie finds her affection gorwing for its bigherted residents. And despite her intentions to the contrary, she's finding it impossible to resist the infuriating True McKitrick, a local boy made good whose mere presence makes her feel utterly alive...and inexplicably at home. Soon, this unlikely romantic pairing is stirring up more than just desire. It's making Collie wonder about the lfie that once seem edperfect -- and the chance of starting over...with a man who's True.

THE MAIN CHARACTER SUGAR BETH CAREY HAS COME BACK HOME. SHE IS BROKE BUT TOO PROUD TO LET ANYONE KNOW. SUGAR BETH'S OLD HOME IS BEING LIVED IN BY HER OLD NEMESIS AND HE WILL DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO DESTROY SUGAR BETH LIKE SHE DESTROYED HIM!!

Now Colin's famous novelist living in Sugar Beth's old mansion, and this modern day dark prince is using his writer's imagination to figure out how to bring the town's beautiful former princes to her knees. But Sugar Beth's no longer the spoiled rich girl they all remember. No, now she's a woman to be reckoned with...and a great big reckonin' is about to happen, not least of all for one dark prince who might-just might- be thinking about fallin' in love with the wickedest girl in town.
