I loved it, it's like classic literature with a twist
Wonderfully creative author - read his Silverwing Trilogy, too!
This was an OK read for me. It had, technically, all the right things: pirates, deserted islands, drama in the air and on land, likable characters, etc.
The time period is set before the world ever heard of women's rights. So, that was kind of annoying for me.
Technically, as I mentioned, it had all the elements and was well written. Nevertheless, I was pretty bored throughout, and began skimming halfway through. The story didn't hold my interest. And I thought the adventure was "shallow", for lack of a better word. The book had no deeper meaning beyond what you see in the adventure.
I think this would be a good adventure story for the 12 year old crowd. Or younger even.
