I liked this one, but not as much as other Sandra Brown's I've read. Sometimes I've said to myself "now would that really happen in real life???" when reading this book...I don't like when I can't believe the characters ... or belive IN them.

With this book, Sandra Brown has made the jump from romance to ace mystery writer--there's no turning back now.
"The Alibi" is a fast-paced, terrific mystery with more plot twists, red herrings, mysterious would-be murderers, and all-around interesting characters than the law allows. It follows the story of urbane, charming, and gorgeous wunderkind Hammond Cross, whose Charleston, South Carolina family is one of the oldest and most respected in the tight-knit upper-class world he calls his own. He's in line to be the next DA, and rightly so. Then, in one fateful night, his world falls apart.
A woman he knows intimately may or may not have murdered the town's wealthiest and most hated citizen, Lute Pettijohn. Even the reader is not sure whether sophisticated psychologist Alex Ladd has done the deed. There are so many other suspects: the un-grieving widow Davee, whose friendship with Cross goes back to their privileged childhoods; most of Pettijohn's business associates, all of whom hated him--and Cross's own upper-class father.
Cross is in this murder up to his neck. If he successfully prosecutes the cops' key suspect, he is a shoe-in for the DA spot. If he doesn't, he may be brought up on charges of obstruction of justice. Along the way, he has to contend with his own tangled and uncharacteristically personal feelings about the case; his jealous and ambitious partner, the acerbic and unlikeable Steffi Mundell; his longtime nemesis, supercop Rory Smilow; and his own cold, judgmental father.

A novel of suspense, intrigue, and corruption. A women suspected of murder arranges the one thing she desperately needs... the alibi
I couldn't put it down. It was that good.
Good, exciting book!
I know that this book got great reviews, and I admit that it was a suspenseful thriller and it could have been a quick read if it had not been over 500 pages long filled with what I felt was unnecessary words to make the book bigger. I am not against reading a long book, I have done it frequently, but when making a book over 500 pages it really needs to have material that is essential tot he plot in order to keep the page length. To me the ending was ok, not thrilling, but kept me reading, but for me this was a book I could put down and not think about when I wasn't reading, therefore it was not the best for me.
Loved it so much, i read it twice.
The more she writes the better her story content gets. Sandra had be quessing until the end! A good read.
Good twists and turns in story line. Fast read. Would recommend.
The only other book I've read by Sandra Brown was RAINWATER. It was wonderful, but it stated that it was a departure from her regular genre.
THE ALIBI is a fantastic mystery that had me guessing right until the end. I'll be reading more of her books in the future!

Ambitious, smart, and driven to succeed, a.d.a. Hammond Cross has his sights set on the District Attorney's office. Prosecuting a high-profile murder case in his hometown of Charleston practically ensures him of the job. But a Saturday night encounter with a mysterious woman is the start of a living nightmare, especially when the prime suspect in his case turns out to be Dr. Alex Ladd, his mystery woman. Hammond now faces a moral dilemma -- and a haunting question. Is she innocent of the crime, or was he set up as the perfect alibi?
Good mystery. Fast read.
Very readable.
A good listen for a trip or when there is nothing on TV. Not a spectacular mystery, good narrator, interesting setting.
Good story! A surprise ending.
written in a narrative that grabs and doesn't let go, this book is a great crime novel. With sensitivity and insight into the human condition, the author creates a forceful psychological portrait of a man in moral turmoil, who must make difficult choices between his personal passions and the demands of his conscience.
was so good I could not go to bed until I read the whole book.

There ought to be a special section of hell for those who would lump romance novels, even romantic intrigues in with books which more properly belong in the genre of 'mystery/thriller'. Of course when the publishers and the hack reviewers conspire to hide the fact that one needs to have a greater suspension of disbelief about both characters and situations tnan one could expect of a halfway intellgent kindergartener what can the poor shelf-organizer do? Be warned that while this book is 'cleverly crafted' it has a plot and characters that can most readily be found in soap opera land. Of course, if one likes soap operas, this book will be a great read.
I loved this book, had a hard time putting it down!
This thriller is about murder, deceit and passion. One of the town's most powerful citizens turns up murdered and they are discovering that there is no shortage of people in the town who wanted him dead.
