My 96 year old mother enjoys reading and loves Cynthia's books. I read the other reviews and got the book anyway. She was not sure that she was going to like this book. It began with the wife complaining about her husband going alone to the Canadian Wilderness. Though he didn't come home, her worry drove her and two others to go look for him. She found the Canadian wilderness a beautiful place. She realized he had gone to take pictures not fishing. She began to view God's creation and knew she would not be the same. Believing they should not give up, the search finally located him after he had lost his way due to losing his eyesight. He had been struck by lightning. The couple realized that the grief over losing a child had driven them apart, but now with the Lord, they could overcome.
After all of the hype over what a great book this was since it was the author's first novel, I was very disappointed. The story line seemed very shallow and the main character very self-serving with a "poor me" attitude. There are hints of other events that happened in the lives of the characters, but nothing specific. The book just seemed to go on and on and never really develops into much of a story.
