The transformations from Phizz to Phoebe and back again are probably what i enjoyed most about the book, although I have to admit the the bedroom scenes were pretty nice as well - graphic enough to be erotic, but never crossing over the line into trashy. The ending was a little predictable, but I also tend to like that in my romance novels. Definitely not a run-of-the-mill regency, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a little more substance in their romance novel.

I read a good review of this author's most recent book (this title is her first book) and thought I'd give her a try.
I did not like the device she used in the first few pages to quickly and awkwardly explain the backstory of how Phoebe becomes Phizz. What I don't think is ever really mentioned in depth until very late in the book is the WHY of the matter. At times I warmed up to the story only to be set back by some misstep in the setting or dialog, or the direction of the plot. And, I liked the Earl much better than Phoebe, and never did understand what he saw in her.
Parts of this story just did not fit with other parts and that threw me off. Also I've heard this author's writings termed "erotica" but I didn't find them in any way erotic. There was goodly amount of sex and the scenes were nicely done, but just using certain graphic words does not make a book "erotica".
All in all, I thought it was a nicely done first effort and am going to read more of this author.

Very good book- a little different than most in this genre. This book was riskier than most, having the heroine living as a man, her loss/abuse from her first marriage. Both H&H were likeable, enjoyable characters. A very good story with some nice twists. I would definitely recommend this book.

A very different take on a woman masquerading as a man. A very beautiful love story. A confident, assertive, but tortured, woman leading a double life and an extremely confident, warm, outgoing man to help her through her tortures. Also, the mystery of who wants her dead. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good story and excellent writing (like new). Story of a gambler who can ruin a person socially by making cutting remarks. The gambler
(our heroine, dressed in disguise) meets the hero who can't believe his feelings for this young man and ...you get the picture!

I really liked this book for the great storyline and the development of the characters. It would have been nice to know alittle more about Phoebe in the beginning but if you have read any HR you can piece together the reasons she has. The end of the book seemed rushed to get in all the sex they could and after a while it was like seriously. Still the book was interesting, great details and development.
I'm an avid romance reader and this is a unique approach to the sometimes predictable historical romance novel. A crossdressing and wonded heroin could be tacky and boaring but this novel is anything but.
Great story
