As I listened to this book, I immediately thought of how much better it must be on audio. (I noticed another reviewer here, Karen, agreed) I remember some months ago flipping through the text of the actual book, and being a bit underwhelmed.
Hearing Stephen Colbert narrate the text makes all the difference... giving the words life and maximum comic effect.
However, I would be surprised if there was anyone listening who at some point was not mildly offended at what he said (I know I was)! But that's the goal.
He covers lots of controversial topics like sex, religion, family life, and despite the fact that most of "opinions" he espouses are completely outrageous, occasionally they rang true, which worried me! :)
Also, you might find that some of the stuff he says is no doubt believed by large groups of people. Therefore, you have some scary mixed in with the funny.
My main point is, however, I think the audio version of this book has to be much better than the printed text... this way, you get the entire Colbert experience!

I don't watch much tv, so I wasn't too familiar with The Colbert Report before reading this book. After reading this book I realize how little I truly know! Thanks to Mr. Colbert, I now have a better understanding of the world.
Honestly, I think Stephen Colbert is a comic genius and highly intelligent to boot. I am now a fan. Although, I have both the hardcover and the audio book and I have to say, the humor translates a lot better in the audio version. I highly recommend hearing the author's words in his own words.

Suffice to say, those who watch The Colbert Report have an idea of what to expect in this book if you like the TV show, you'll like the book. If you do not, you will not. And if you're a neophyte I'd take the gamble and try the book it's an easy read.
Fans may realize just how much the graphics that augment Colbert's television monologues help enhance his humor due to their absence in this boo.(which I listened to in Audio, narrated by the author with a little help from friends. This certainly helped stay in the spirit of the TV show.)
Perhaps the one thing that was lacking and had to be was the timelieness of some of the opinions expressed. Since the book can't be prepared and tweaked within 24 hours, the matters discussed had to be more long-term in nature.
Rating: 4 stars. Having seen some of his (in my opinion) best work on television, I know this was good but that he's got more in the tank.

Genre: Political Humor (audio book)
I have to say that I read this book because I was on a long drive with my boyfriend. He had recently bought this audio book even though he had previously read the book. I wasnt sure if I was going to enjoy this book or not; I am not the most adamant fan of his show, but I enjoyed this book enough.
This book is essentially the life story of the character Stephen Colbert. He discusses his opinions on many things from marriage and gender roles, to college education, the work force, religion and politics. He speaks in sarcasm and ridicules ways of life in America today that are failing.
I think this book is more effective in the audio book format. It is narrated by Colbert himself so you get the true feel of how he speaks and his mannerisms. It is very similar to the way he is on his television show. So if you like his show, you will enjoy the book. There are also other narrators on this book as well, including a cameo by none other than John Stewart (Colberts rival). The use of multiple narrators breaks up the story and makes it a much more enjoyable audio-book.
All-in-all I enjoyed this book. I think I enjoyed it a little more than his television show. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan. I would also caution new readers to understand this book is sarcasm and humor and to not take anything he says personally.
3.5 out of 5 stars.

Amusing. Better to listen to this than nothing in a car ride.
