As an immigrant my self, I have committed many blunders as well, so it is nice to know that I was not alone...

One of the many humorous pictures is Yakov Smirnoff hunching over a roulette table with the caption "I like the American version of roulette much better!" Another has him in front of an "OPEN HOUSE" sign with the caption: "No wonder there are so many burglaries in America!" They're funnier when you're physically seeing them, of course, which is why you must pick up a copy of this sadly passed over hidden treasure. He genuinely loves this country, the country that gave him refuge from the USSR. Astoundingly funny political humor, but Smirnoff never becomes political. He's simply trying to make you laugh, and he succeeds.

Amusing. I liked his commentary on America. His jokes on Russia were repetative.

This is a strange book. Uncle Tom Yakov Smirnoff gives it to his home country, its women, its food, and its culture, for red-blooded U.S. capitalist types. A nice relic of the Cold War days that made Yakov popular (?). He can now be found in his very own eatery/nightclub establishment in Branson, Missouri, dishing out his doofus culture clash pap to the morons that go there. Anyway, this is a stellar bathroom book; don't worry, mine is staying there. Five stars.

Written almost 20 years ago, the experiences of Russians (and shared by most immigrants!) adapting to this complex country are timeless, and told with great humor!
An enjoyable quick read.

Quite funny. Interesting to see how some might see Americans and how we can be appreciated even with our peculiarities.

Too funny! A look on America and English language thru immigrant's eyes. The author was a favorite of late President Reagan and Johnny Carson. Now he has his won theater in Branson, MO.
