I was late getting in on Mitch Rapp, but once I started I had to get in on the action. WOW, every one of these Vince Flynn thrillers is better than the one before. If you haven't read any of this series it's time to get started.

"American Assassin" is Vince Flynn's 11th Mitch Rapp novel, but it's written as the first in the storyline. So it's a prequel to 1999s "Transfer of Power" and the start of the Mitch Rapp series.

The novel provides us with the origins of Mitch Rapp as a CIA counter-terrorism super-agent. It details his recruitment, training, and first missions.

This is not literature, but it is a really fun, quick read.

This has been a personal, long-awaited storyline regarding the origins of Mitch Rapp. The intensity of action is as expected with Vince Flynn's novels.

This sets up the background about how Rapp was "discovered" by Irene Kennedy, the training he received, and how he started out as the icon of what some Americans would like to see in an operative in the world of terrorism.

This is full of action, manipulative coniving, and exceeds the expectations for the proper background story of Mitch Rapp.

American Assassin is the story of how Mitch Rapp, the main character of many of Flynn's books, started his career. Mitch Rapp is special when dealing with espionage and Flynn has written many stories with Rapp dealing with issues that can get him killed. The fact that he continues to outwit and outmaneuver many is explained in this book.

You have to love that Flynn takes us back to the beginning and explains how Rapp was recruited and trained. Nobody believes that he is any good but Irene Kennedy believes in him and boy is she right. Rapp was made for this stuff and you cannot help but love his character.

My brother could not stop raving about this book, stating that he was so entranced by Flynn's description of the training program and his relationship with the crusty Hurley, his trainer. I decided that I could not wait to read this book and went and bought it immediately. I will say that I did not waste my money. This was a page turner from start to finish. I kept asking my brother how could the author describe all of the details in this book. I do not want to say more in order not to give stuff away. Flynn is a master at writing about espionage. I sometimes have a hard time following who is who but his writing places you right in the middle of gun battles, blown out buildings, places, countries, etc.

Even if you have not read any of Flynn's books, this is a fantastic one to read first. You will get the beginnings of Mitch Rapp and want to read more of his adventures. However, if you have been reading about Rapp for years, you love the insight that this book delivers.

Definitely purchase this one and then pass it along to someone else. They will thank you.

DONT'T MISS THIS ONE. Book 1 written after book 12.

Before he was considered a CIA superagent, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world . . . and then tragedy struck.

Two decades of cutthroat, partisan politics has left the CIA and the country in an increasingly vulnerable position. Cold War veteran and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield knows he must prepare his people for the next war. The rise of Islamic terrorism is coming, and it needs to be met abroad before it reaches Americas shores. Stansfield directs his protÉgÉe, Irene Kennedy, and his old Cold War colleague, Stan Hurley, to form a new group of clandestine operatives who will work outside the normal chain of commandmen who do not exist.

What type of man is willing to kill for his country without putting on a uniform? Kennedy finds him in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Two-hundred and seventy souls perished that cold December night, and thousands of family and friends were left searching for comfort. Mitch Rapp was one of them, but he was not interested in comfort. He wanted retribution.

As action-packed, fast-paced, and brutally realistic as it gets, Flynns latest page-turner shows readers how it all began. Behind the steely gaze of the nations ultimate hero is a young man primed to become an American Assassin.

This was the first book I have read from the Mitch Rapp Series by Vince Flynn. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and the build of emotion all the way to the end. I am now on my 6th book of the series and highly recommend the read.

Finally, an answer to the question...How did Mitch get to be where he is today? This book answered this question and several other ones I've had reading Flynn's other books. I just wished it was a little bit earlier in the series. Compared to the first 10 books, I would consider this a light read. Not as suspenseful as the other books, but it does a good job of laying down the foundation for Mitch, Kennedy and the other folks mentioned in the later books. While it won't keep you glued to the seat, it is a good book.

The story of how Mitch Rapp become what he became. Lots of 'extra' characters, mostly bad, it can get a little confusing. All in all an entertaining read.

Love Flynn, love Rapp. This prequel does not disappoint and helps fill in some heretofore background gaps.
