Uneven, as anthologies tend to be. Some very good short stories, and some clearly dashed off in a spare afternoon to meet the deadline. Best to read the book in one-story increments, because reading several in one sitting reinforces the underlying uniformity of plot. Slip it into briefcase or purse for those 5 to 10 minute dentist office waits or traffic gridlock.

CUTE STORIES...all short stories...not what I thought it would be...I like a begining to end book...but thats just me. The nice thing is that you get a taste of all these authors and see if you would like to try something else they wrote.

I really liked this book, but I was a bit disappointed that they still seemed to be about women in the UK. I expected it to be centered around American women, but it wasn't. Oh well, great read anyway. Some of the stories I didn't want to end.

Overall this was a fun little book to read. Since it is a collection of different authors there are some stories that will probably be enjoyed more than others. Not a brain teaser sort of book, but fluff reading in the bath or by a fire.

This is a fun book of short stories and a great way to get to know some very good, but lesser known, women authors. If you like Jennifer Weiner's writing, you'll probably enjoy this. Many of the stories are quite funny.

The book wasn't what I expected. When they say short stories, they mean really short stories. This would be good reading at a doctors office or when you have just a quick moment to read. Some of the stories were great, others not so great. It is a good way to get a taste of an authors writing. You should discover 1 or 2 new authors for yourself.

A nice light read between bigger books. Short stories great for when you just have an hour to sit and read. A couple stories made me laugh out loud. Gave it 3.5 stars.

Some short stories are better than others, still a great book to carry around with you and read while waiting in line, at the doctor's office etc. The stories are quick and very easy to digest.

Loved some of the stories, thought others were okay. Perfect book to read when you don't have a lot of time, you can read one and another not until the next week. I would recommend reading this if you like Chick Lit!

Short stories that were ok for reading at the pool, but definitely not any of the authors' better works.

17 chicklit stories. I've never read a chicklit book where the love interest is missing a limb, or even part of one, and this book has two such stories. I really liked Linda Curnyn's "The Uncertainty Principle," which references 9/11 without being exploitative. It was so funny to read Sarah Mlynowki's "The Two-Month Itch," because a friend and I were just talking about "choose-your-own" romance stories, and this is sort of one!

I enjoy a short story book by many authors since it give me a chance to decide if I want to read anything else by that particular author. The only thing with this, there were some stories that I wanted to go on. Its was disappointing to discover the story has ended and I have to make my own conclusions.

I am SO NOT into Chick Lit! Granted, these are short stories, about 5-10 pages long. But NONE of them were interesting. It's like a formula with these stories. Most of them were about married with children women or women who were divorced or women getting divorced. I have FINALLY learned my lesson when it comes to Chick Lit. In the immortal words of Monty Python ... Run away! Run away!

From Publishers Weekly: Now that the Scottish girls and the Irish girls have had their chance (Irish Girls About Town; Scottish Girls About Town), a delightfulâif unevenânew collection of 17 stories from American women authors hits the scene. While many stories are simply shorter versions of chick-lit booksâbreezy, light, funâsome play with the rules. The best of the bunch come from a mix of name writers and lesser known talents. Laura Wolf's "Amore" follows a young woman through her lifelong quest to bypass dull American boys and find an interesting foreign manâa quiet-sounding premise that heats up with an unexpected twist. Sarah Mlynowki's lively "The Two-Month Itch" chronicles the possible outcomes of kissingâor not kissingâthe cute boy seated next to you on a plane when you're not at all single. Lynda Curnyn's "The Uncertainty Principle" is a dreamy, atmospheric story of what happens in one apartment when the lights go out in New York City in the summer of '03. And in Claire Lazebnik's charming "Leaving a Light On," a married couple pretends to meet for the first time in a hotel bar, spicing up their marriage with "casual sex." While this anthology has its share of mediocre padding, the gems in it are strong enough to make this a rewarding read for lovers of chick lit.
// Born in the U.S.A....American gals are taking liberties -- and pursuing happiness on their own terms -- in this star-studded story collection featuring the nation's red-hot women writers. // They've declared their independence! Jennifer Weiner (In Her Shoes) learns "The Truth About Nigel" -- and the trouble with falling for an incognito Hollywood actor. Lauren Weisberger (The Devil Wears Prada) sends a single New Yorker on a backpacking trip halfway around the world -- where she sees her love life back home with new eyes -- in "The Bamboo Confessions." A harried mom with a hit novel crosses the pond in "My Great Brit Book Tour" by Adriana Trigiani (Lucia, Lucia), and turns a crumbling talk show appearance into a sweet success. Also uniting their talents in this free-spirited anthology are:
JULIANNA BAGGOTT ⢠CINDY CHUPACK ⢠LYNDA CURNYN ⢠QUINN DALTON ⢠LAUREN HENDERSON ⢠JUDI HENDRICKS ⢠GRETCHEN LASKAS ⢠CLAIRE LaZEBNIK ⢠CHRIS MANBY ⢠SARAH MLYNOWSKI ⢠MELISSA SENATE ⢠JILL SMOLINSKI ⢠NANCY SPARLING ⢠LAURA WOLF
