This story was a tour-de-force; this was a masterful retelling of Nathaniel Hawthorne's life, loves, angst, isolation, writing contemporaries, college contemporaries (who mattered throughout his life), later socialization, and so much more. I loved this book! The author really got into Nathaniel's mind and how he emerged from his years of isolation -- and how that time affected his prose. I just cannot say enough about the adept analysis of Hawthorne and his times.
