An excellent analysis of the role of religion, energy sources and the rise of a financial focus of a nation.

Compares Spain, Holland, Britain and current US.

This helps explain the last decades in our country.

I'll give him credit, he did a pretty good job of warning of the perils of Credit Default Swaps and Credit Derivative Options, both of which he mentioned, if not explained, in his book, and in general, predicting dire consequences of dealing with exotic forms of debt. He focusses on 3 aspects of the American situation (as you can tell in the title), he really doesn't tie the 3 together, but you can tell the radical religion part really sets him off.
