The story about an Ancient Celtic stone angel has been passed down for centuries. Keira Sullivan learns of the angel through a story told by Patsy McCarthy. Patsy has told the story to many people but only Keira decides that she will go to Ireland and seek the angel on her own. Keira is a folklorist and illustrator and Patsy's story fascinates her. Before Keira can leave Boston to travel to Ireland, she finds a body. It is that of Victor Sarakis, a man who has spent a lot of time studying the devil.

The story alternates settings between Ireland and Boston. Simon Cahill, a friend of the family and also a member of the FBI, winds up involved and follows Keira to Ireland¬-which is a good thing since she winds up in some danger. Kiera has lived a strange life. Her mother Eileen made a trip to Ireland and came home pregnant with Kiera. Now Kiera's mother lives alone in a hermit-like existence. Bob O'Reilly, Kiera's uncle, is not happy over Kiera's decision to go to Ireland and try to locate the angel. Bob has good reason to feel this way because of past events.

This is a marvelous story of family, legends, and age-old truths that finally come to light. The book is also filled with suspense and many surprises. Author Carla Neggers traveled to Ireland and visited a pub such as the one described in The Angel. The scenery described makes one wish for a trip to Ireland.

***If you read The Widow, this book lets you know what is happening with Abigail Browning after he solved her husband's murder.***

This is the second book in this series and it was just as enjoyable as the first. You don't need to read them in sequence but it does help make the characters more interesting. This book had lots of twists and turns to it and one is never sure who the 'bad guy' is. It also has a bit of Irish folklore that I found interesting. If you like a good mistery with a bit of romance then you will enjoy this book.

Quite an intriguing tale dealing with the past and present and old-wives tales and ghost stories that put a chill down your spine. You know there is no such things as ghostly hauntings and evil lurking from the past, don't you. Good read.

A twisty tale that shifts back and forth in time and from the U.S. to Ireland and back again. I suspect from some conversation that there was a prior book, but this can definitely be read on its own. Lots of red herrings, and I dare the reader to figure out who-dunnit early in the book!

From back cover: On a remote stretch of the rugged coast of Ireland, folklorist and illustrator Keira Sullivan pursues the mysterious Irish legend of an ancient Celtic stone angel. As she searches an isolated ruin, she's certain she's discovered the mythic angel, but before she can examine her find, she senses a malevolent presence.... Is someone in there with her? Then the ruin collapses, trapping her.
Keira's uncle, a Boston homicide detective, enlists the help of Simon Cahill to find his missing niece. Simon, an expert with Fast Rescue, a rapid response search-and-rescue organization, is trying to keep a low profile after secretly assisting the take-down of a major criminal network, but he rushes to Ireland, pulling Keira out of the rubble just as she's about to free herself.
Simon isn't interested in myths or magic, nor is he surprised when Keira can't find a trace of her stone angel. He doesn't believe it exists. But the gruesome evidence of a startling act of violence convinces him that whatever she found in the ruin, the danger she faces is real.
When the violence follows them to Boston -- and escalates -- Simon and Keira realize that the long-forgotten story that has captivated her has also aroused a killer... a calculating predator who will certainly kill again.
