A rather unique take on the angel genre. In Angel Burn, the angels have come to Earth since their realm is dying. However this is not a good thing as the angels are sucking the life out of humans...literally. Alex Kylar's father noticed the first angel feeding off a human and started fighting against them. He got his two boys involved when their mother was killed by an angel. Alex and Jake were AKs (angel killers) at a young age and continued even after their father was killed. Once the CIA got involved and created Project Angel, the tech got better as did the pay. Now it appears as if the angels have infiltrated Project Angel and the AKs are secreting being dispatched to kill "good" angels. There are a few good angels who do not feed off humans and who are doing what they can to stop their brethren.
The Church of Angels has sprung up across the country with the main office in Denver Colorado. As all religious cults go, it is a huge success with TV and billboard advertisements. The head angel of the Church, Raziel "runs" this location with an iron hand. His assistant Jonah Fisk was saved by a "good" angel so he is on the side of angels not knowing that there are two factions. When he overhears something Raziel says to his second Lailah, he starts thinking and investigating the angels.
Surprisingly (or not) Alex had been given the "hit" to kill Willow Fields, a half-human half-angel teenager. However during his brief investigation, he realizes that she is not a scum-sucking angel and doesn't kill her. When she goes to the Church of Angels to save her friend, she is discovered and chased with deadly intent. Alex saves her and the two are on running for their lives.
The animosity is intense as Alex has always hated the Angels since they are responsible for killing his family. On the other hand, Willow is instantly attracted but knows it will never work since Alex hates her guts. The road trip is interesting and of course, they overcome their differences in a spectacular way. Excellent start to a new and exciting series.

I did not like this book because angels are not the good guys in this book. It just went against the grain for me and I abandoned it.
