The AngloSaxon Chronicle According to the Several Original Authorities - Cambridge Library Collection - Rolls - Volume 2 Benjamin Thorpe (1781/2-1870) was a scholar of Old English and Member of the Royal Academy of Sciences at Munich. Covering the period from Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain to around the accession of Henry II in 1154, this volume is a translation of the chronicle into English, drawn from seven manuscripts and including notes. As none are the original, the authorship is unknown, although Thorpe argues that several elements indicate the influence of King Alfred (848/9-899) upon the chronicle's compilation.
