I have lived in or around Annapolis all my life; therefore, I found this book fascinating. The book gave the historical view of the major families of the city and the major events but it also gave the reader views of the city before it became what it is today which I found so enlightening. I felt as though I were living in the era and seeing Annapolis not as it is today but as it was then.
Good reading.

The author, William Martin, takes us from the inception of American privateeing to our advanced 21st Century system of Naval history through the eyes of two families.

A good read if you are interested in Naval history, or the Annapolis area, but it copies the style of Michener without the depth. I found the tie in from the past to the present, a descendant writing a novel about the family as they work for ownership of the family home, tedious.
