At first this story was just a continuation of the life of Anne Shirley and the people she loved. It wasn't very interesting but it was nice to see what they were all up to. This story is about Anne's time in college at Redmond with her gal-friends and Gilbert Blithe. Everyone of her friends seemed to be very into the idea of romance and getting married. She just wanted to enjoy life and friendships without all that to distract her. This story started to get very interesting in time and I cried during the last chapter.

I really love this book. Must be read after "Anne of Avonlea" to understand what's happening. This book really motivated me when I was younger to get a good education. Please note: The cover picture on my book is different from the one the ISBN is showing. I couldn't find any other that also matched the publisher (Apple Books Inc.) so I left it the way it is. The cover I have looks very nice and goes along with the other Anne books I have posted.

Book Description
New adventures lie ahead as Anne Shirley packs her bags, waves good-bye to childhood, and heads for Redmond College. With old friend Prissy Grant waiting in the bustling city of Kingsport and frivolous new pal Philippa Gordon at her side, Anne tucks her memories of rural Avonlea away and discovers life on her own terms, filled with surprises...including a marriage proposal from the worst fellow imaginable, the sale of her very first story, and a tragedy that teaches her a painful lesson. But tears turn to laughter when Anne and her friends move into an old cottage and an ornery black cat steals her heart. Little does Anne know that handsome Gilbert Blythe wants to win her heart, too. Suddenly Anne must decide if she's ready for love...

This is #3 in the Anne of Green Gables series. I quite enjoyed this book. I was so excited for Anne to finally achieve her dream of attending college. Since Anne is away from Green Gables, I did miss her interactions and friendship with Diana, but Anne does make some old and new connections at college. And I just wanted to scream at Anne when she refused Gilbert's proposal!! How could she be such a fool and so blind to her own feelings!!! ugh!! The ending of this book is my favorite scene of the entire Anne of Green Gables series.

I will forever love Anne Shirley, no matter how much I am teased by my 'intellectual' male friends. :) Another wonderful volume of Anne leaving Avonlea to enter college.

Whishing couldn't keep Anne of Green Gables from growing up. Anne's whole world was changing-her childhood friends marrying. Anne herself leaving the Island for four years of college. but as much as life changed, important things stayed the same-especially spirited, irrepressible Anne.

This is one of a series of books about a wonderful girl as she becomes a woman. It is a clean wholesome story but written so well you'll want to read all of the books, I know I did.

Anne of Green Gables is growing up--she is leaving the island for college. Her friends are marrying. Through challenges and disappointments, do the important things remain the same? Level: adolescent child.
