Jessica is a twenty-something woman who works for a beauty company and will appear to you to do your makeup. She is doing that when one of the women gets a text from a Dr. Shields about a morality study. Jessica gets that information and appears at the right time to be included in this study.
She is in a room, alone, with a computer and is asked to answer some questions. The questions are very personal and intricate.
Jessica becomes involved in the study and meets Dr. Shields. Dr. Shields is very elegant and moneyed. Then the fun really gets started.

Well I gave it my usual 100 pages and when I couldn't stand it anymore I gave up.
This book is totally preposterous, the characters implausible and the subject matter ridiculous .
I love these authors but boy, this one was horrendous.
I know I'm in the minority as most reviews are good, but hey, different strokes for different folks!
My opinion.

This book was so silly, but I could not stop reading it. I stayed up way too late! Part 3 didn't maintain the same level of suspense, but I still wanted to see what would happen. Truly a guilty pleasure.
I was enjoying this book but it was moving a little slowly for me until a certain revelation which made the book jump up a notch for me and definitely made me want to keep turning the pages more and more quickly. Jess was a very interesting character. It seemed to me that she was stuck between a rock and a hard place more than once but she was strong, smart and resilient and continued to surprise me. I very much enjoyed this book.
Not my cup of tea.
This is my first book by these authors. I wasn't sure what to expect but wow! This book was amazing!
One of those page turners, for sure. Had to order a copy of their first book too.

I thought this was a fun and compelling thriller. I couldn't stop turning the pages. While I have seen a few reviews say it isn't plausible (and maybe in some ways it isn't) I felt it could be plausible. There are manipulative, insane people in the world and there are vulnerable victims in the world. This creeped me out all along the way and I was in fear for the protagonist as the metaphorical noose kept tightening! An evil, insane, clever villain in a position of power is a scary thing! There were twists right up to the end. I enjoyed every minute of it!
Holy Doughnut Holes Batman! That was a wild ride.
If you want a book to keep you attention and make you think, swear, anguish over and shout Yes!, this one is for you. A rollercoaster of suspense and thrills.
The narrator was excellent, easy to listen to and understand.

"Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt? Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about? Should a punishment always fit the crime?" These are questions asked by Dr. Shields when Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study about ethics and morality. She is being paid for her answers and becomes Suspect 52. As the questions get more and more intense and invasive, Jessica's paranoia grows.
I found this book to be very unique, intriguing and suspenseful. The plot rolls out slowly but keeps the pages turning. The book is well-written and the characters seem like real people. The point of view alternates between Jessica and Dr. Shields. Lots of twists and turns lead this psychological thriller to a very surprise ending. I'm looking forward to reading Hendricks/Pekkanen's first book, The Wife Between Us, as I really enjoyed this one. I would highly recommend this book to those who love to read about obsession and power.
I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book for an honest review.
