Not Another Bad Date continues a series comprised of: Sex, Lies and Online Dating (2006), I'm In No Mood for Love (2006), and Tangled Up In You (2007). The books are about the romances of a group of friends. However, this book works fine as a stand alone novel.
The story is set in small town Texas where Adele Harris, a science fiction and fantasy writer, goes to help out her sister. While there she meets up with Zach Zamaitis, a former pro football player, now a high school football coach. Adele and Zach have lives full of responsibilities and difficulties. Zach has a teenage daughter from his marriage and Adele is looking after her niece during her sister's hospital stay for a difficult pregnancy. The two girls become friends and this leads to Adele and Zach spending time together.
They have a history together. Fourteen years ago they dated in college. They broke up when a previous girlfriend of Zach's found out she was pregnant. Zach married the pregnant ex-girlfriend, but now she has been dead for three years. Zach and Adele are still attracted to each other but their romance does not go smoothly. Zach's late wife tries to keep them apart from the afterlife. Her actions tend to have consequences she did not intend. Her part of the story is amusing as her plans keep going awry.
The characters are believable and likable. I liked the small town Texas setting and I found the book enjoyable. Overall a very good contemporary romance with some paranormal elements mixed in.

How did Rachel Gibson write so clearly about ever woman's fears about dating the wrong guys and all of our hang-ups too? An excellent read!

Cute end to this 'series' but not a good book on it's own. Too formulaic, and the heroine is not the same heroine we've seen in the other four books. Not "dreamy" enough.
I could have done without the "woo woo" factor too, which was too contived, and an easy way out.

Fourth in a series about 4 Boise friends- but it is in no way necessary to read the other three books. Adele Harris returns to Texas to help her pregnant sister when she is left by her husband. There, she becomes re-acquainted with Zach Zematis, ex quarterback and ex love of her life. She has good cause to believe that she has been cursed in her dating life, but can she forgive Zach his past transgression and learn to love again? Good, quick read.
This is a great light read! How many of us have not had the misfortune of having a few bad dates? If you answered no,consider yourself very lucky.
Rachel Gibson has become one of my favorite authors of late, as she can lighten up any bad mood, and leave you with a good ending, while taking you on a journey of the dating scene.........

I read this book in one night. A very easy read and enjoyable.

This is the last book of the four friends/author series. Each story reflects the writer's genre and since Adele writes fantasy/sci-fi, Gibson added the "ghost" story factor. I thought it was interesting that the "ghost" was someone who hated Adele and was trying to hurt her.
Again a fun story and very silly. It's a quick read.
I would have liked to see Zach been a little more apologetic about being such a jerk but it was okay. Also I really loved the reaction of the bad dates from the curse. I would have loved to see more examples of those because they were hilarious.
I agree that Adele doesn't seem dreamy enough but I actually like her better here. I thought she was difficult in the other books.

I really enjoyed this book. Read it in 2 days. A fun plot with a ghost and a hunky hero. What more can you ask for?
I Love Rachel Gibson, and I loved this book. I couldn't put it down! I can't wait until her next book comes out. She is a great writer, who knows how to captivate her audience!
I really liked this book. A great, fun, quick read. I've already requested more Rachel Gibson books and can't wait to read them.
I had read the other books in this series about the other writer friends so I was interested in Adele's story. This one didn't grab me as much as Claire/Sebastian's or Lucy/Quinn's, but I liked it more than the third one--whose characters I can't recall at the moment. Rachel Gibson has a way of sweeping you into her stories and you just are along for the ride. I hate when they end, even if I like the ending because I'm enjoying the ride so much. I like the people she writes about.

Quick and Fun Read. I have liked every book by Rachel Gibson and I am not disappointed in this one. This is a cute modern day love story of a relationship from 14 years ago that finds it's way again. Takes place in Texas and I could even hear the Texas accent while readings it.
Another great read from Rachel Gibson

Writer Adele Harris leaves Idaho to return to her hometown in Texas to help care for her pregnant sister and her 13-year-old niece. She needs a change of scenery after a slew of bad dates and hopes to have better luck in Texas. But the first guy she meets is the guy who broke her heart in college. Zach Zemaitis shattered Adele's heart when he broke off their relationship to marry Adele's nemesis, Devon. Now Devon is dead and Zach is raising his teenage daughter while coaching high school football. Adele is still attracted to Zach but is determined to keep her distance from him. But his daughter being friends with her niece keeps throwing them together at various events. Zach wants to start up where they left off many years ago; but he'll have to convince Adele to give him a chance.
This is the final book in Gibson's Writer Friends series. Both Adele and Zach were likeable characters, but I thought the story was just "ok". This story had a lot of the same tropes that we've seen in so many contemporary romances. Zach never loved his wife and has thought about Adele for the past fourteen years. Adele's dating life is awful until she is back with the love of her life. Zach doesn't want more kids, so of course Adele ends up pregnant and he believes she trapped him. Maybe it's just the fact that lately I have been bored with this genre, but I thought the story could have been better. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Fun,Quick read. Another winner for Gibson.
Adele Harris can't even begin to answer that question. She's had so many lousy dates that she's sure she's cursed. Why else would every man she goes out with suddenly act like he's lost his mind--and his manners? Adele thought life couldn't get any more confusing....until she learns the marriage of her seemingly Miss Perfect sister is on the rocks. So she goes back to their hometown to give her a shoulder to cry on, only to run smack into Zach Zemaitis....the one who got away.
TEXANS LOVE GOD, FAMILY AND FOOTBALL THOUGH NOT ALWAYS IN THAT ORDER.
Zach, a former pro star, knows all about football. As for the other two, well, he's doing his best. But when Adele comes charging back into his life--still all lush curves and beautiful be blue eyes--he wonders if his best is good enough. After all, he did her wrong. Can a woman with her track record ever really believe that he's serious this time....or is he destined to be another bad date?
