Excellent first hand account of wwII tank crew. Irwin tells his story adding some humor to some most dreadful situations.

Very interesting and well written account of a young WW II tank crew member during the US Army's push into Germany following the Battle of the Bulge. Unlike some personal; histories written the author doesn't delve into a lot of background info using just enough to let you understand what's going on in his young mind. A short book (176 pages) makes for a quick read.

A fascinating, personal account of a young man who skips his last year of high school to join the U.S. Army in 1944. After training, he finds himself assigned as a tank gunner in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany after the Rhine had been crossed. He joins a veteran tank crew and soon learns the war is far from over. And if he wants to live to return home he must learn that "Combat can't be taught---you gotta learn it for yourself."

It was interesting what he chose to do after the war.

Fantastic true story of a Tank Gunner in World War 2. Just a teenager,he wanted to eradicate Hitler himself. Written in a great story form, conveying many exciting, harrowing memories, not the least was the death of his best friend. It is also funny, as this kid/Private, makes many blunders, once arresting a whole house of German officers and soldiers who were going to surrender anyway, to the chagrin of his officer, who then had to feed and house them. Really a great book written from the perspective of a wet behind the ears teenager.
