If you like really great writing and complex stories that seem simple, with good character development, this is for you. Pat Barker is one of those authors whose work I want to read all of. She is the author of the award-winning Regeneration Trilogy, historical novels centered on the First World War.

Really one of the best i've read in awhile. Very indept story,easy to follow-- at times a tear jerker, but it is the story of life long ago, life now, secrets,what secrets can do to you as a person and as a family who never knew till later, trying to hold on, and dying. Very moving. I truely loved this novel and author.
This book is too vulgar and crass. I couldn't read more than 5 pages before I was disgusted and had to put it down.
