Sally B. (sallybalboa) reviewed Anvil of God: Book One of the Carolingian Chronicles on + 7 more book reviews
When I first started reading Anvil of God, my first thought was, meh, but as I got more and more into it. I started to fall in love with the characters. They are so well described and just bursting with personalities. You know how sometimes when you're reading a book and all of the characters blend together? Yeah, that doesn't happen with Anvil of God.
My second favorite thing about this book was definitely the religious aspect. Pagan rituals have always fascinated me, and the idea of Pagans and Catholics getting married is a little hilarious and slightly dangerous. As the book proves. But the ceremonies, whether they be funerals or of the sexual variety, are so intense, that its like you're there. And you learn about these things with some of the characters especially Trudi, a firebrand looking to be free.
This book is a bit thick, and it takes a while to get through but its totally worth it. This is one series I'll be following
